I would encourage you to look at
the new breed of BT-SiRFIII GPS receivers that have started hitting the market in the past 6 months. I have the GlobalStat BT-338 (and LOVE it!!!), but there are several good competitors out there to choose among. They are much more sensitive than units with any older technology - thus, they will work more accurately under adverse conditions (heavy overhead foliage of forests and jungles and in between the high-rise buildings on urban streets). Because they are smaller, they are more rugged than the older units (the just annouced SysOnChip Smart Blue Mini GPS is so small that it is marketed as a key chain fob - see:
http://tinyurl.com/7l7hx ), . They are more power efficient, thus they have a longer operating life (my BT-338 lasts 11 to 13 hour between charges).
I just turn my GPS receiver on, sync it up to my x50v, slip into a small zip-lock freezer bag, toss it into a jacket pocket or fanny pack and I'm off. No muss - no fuss!!!
One of the best places to shop for all things relating to GPS is BuyGPSnow.com. You can see the units that are currently being offered at:
