Axim x51 or Ipaq hx2490p?

Hi!
I was lately trying to gather infos about something to bring with me as a backpacker to keep connected but little, more little than a netbook.
WIth my money here, I have decided to buy a nokia 5800 as a al l in one (I will not have a camera, so, nokia happens to be great for me).
Ans a second device more for internet, a PDA...
I cannot decide betweem:
Axim x51v with extra 2200 battery, 180usd
Ipaq hx2490p with extra battery and an external portable keyboar, for 160usd.
or eventually, Ipaq hx2755, 170usd

Price is more or less the same, I will not decide a lesser device for few bucks.
So, I want the one which will give me less problems and more freedom.
I like Axim, but I have read that it has got a weak wifi.
THese ipaq are said to be very good for wifi.

So, whch one, and why?

I have a lot of experience with IPAQs, owning the hx2415, the hw6925, the rx1950, the 910c Business Messenger, the Data Messenger, the Voice Messenger, and the Glisten.

What kind of backpacking are you planning to do? Will you be out in the wilderness or in urban areas? Since you are focused on WIFI capability, can we assume you will be in urban areas and are planning to use free hotspots?

If you are planning to connect to wifi hotspots, either the Axim or the IPAQ would be a good choice. I think the Axim has a VGA screen (someone else can confirm this), so the screen will probably be nicer than that of the IPAQ.

The hx2755 has more memory than the hx2490 and will probably be more powerful, but the hx2490 has the WM5.0 operation system on it (unless the hx2755 was upgraded to WM5.0). Choosing a WM5.0 model will probably be a better choice, since your data will be protected against loss if your battery goes flat (which could happen if you are not able to plug it into AC power for several days) - with the earlier OS (windows mobile 2003) user data is stored in RAM and if the battery goes flat you lose your data.

Thanks!

Well, yes, the more memory theme is something I discovered lately. 2755 is 128mb ram. 2490b and Axim are 64...
Do you think this is a problem for Axim? It is lot of ram more! The double...
I understand why the 2755, with same Axim procesor, but double ram, and only qvga, was able to win over Axim in all tests.
Anyway, I think that Axim is pretty good for me.
I was mostly worried about reasons to not buy Axim over Ipaq. One reason could have been wifi but I am understanding it is not a problem.
Other reason could have been USB 2.0 on 2490b, but really I do not think I will thansfer files all the time.
The biggest theme in this moment for me is which of these devices offers better compatibility with all kind of wifi, free, wep, wpa or wpa2...

I think any of those devices will work find with wifi...but I don't think any of them can work with wpa2 encryption.

I have the x50, which has quite a bit of the same hardware as the x51, and the wifi on it is great. Id say its comparable to my laptop's built in wifi.

The x51v has a VGA screen which means its 640x480 instead of the standard 320x240 resolution, this makes it nicer for small text and stuff. But there is also the x51 mid which has the regular 320x240 screen. So check for the v, it also has a slightly faster processor and better graphics to support the higher resolution.

Also, Julies point on WM5. Not only does it protect your data, but it still works for the most part with newer programs. Wm2003se has pretty much been abandoned by anything new. The x51 even has some wm6 roms out there, but they are unofficial ones, the ipaq with wm5 may also have wm6 roms avaliable, im not sure.

Yes... I understand.
I have decided for the axim, for many reasons.
One, is that I am tired. I want to sleep.
No more forums and reviews for a while.
Just sleep.
:)
