Can't connect at Hotels

Hi. I'm using an HTC Universal with WinMo 5.
A fairly new type of security is being used at hotels, Panera, etc.
It is neither WEP, WPA or Whap!
You supposedly are free to connect, but something immediately routes you to their login web page, where (in the case of some hotels) you have to enter user name and password to go any where.

My problem - I can see the network, but it won't even connect to give me a chance to load the webpage. I got the web page from a... another unit (OK, it was an iPhone) but it didn't matter - it never made the connection. I tried every variation on the network connection, but nothing worked.

Ideas?

It's been a while since I made any of these connections so it's possible things have changed but I was able to get to the login page at Panera and several hotels by attempting to go to google.com after the initial connection to the WiFi network. It seems the default internet page on WM devices does not redirect (probably because it is an html page on the device itself).

Thanks for the input, Ike (I like Ike).
My problem is, it won't even connect to the network to start with.

Check the Check these first part of the Troubleshooting section of the WiFi Guide. It's mostly written for people with home networks (since some of the suggestions involve changes to the router). Are you sure it's not making the initial connection? I'm not familiar with the HTC but I assume there is a WiFi utility that shows available sites and the connection status.

Sometimes it helps to delete all the odd network connections that are currently set up on the device (not the ones for home or work, but all the ones that the device finds whenever you're out and about).
