I have an iPaq 6315 which is not just a Pocket PC but an intergrated quadband cell phone. An all-in-one package with built-in WiFi and Bluetooth. I only wish it had a faster processor, that's it. But then again because of the slower processor the battery life is beyond amazing!
Note: I still have my X30H though. :)

I have an HP4700, 2215 and 1910. My friend that is getting an new PPC just asked me for a recommendation and I told him to get an X51V. Although I really like my 4700 I think the form factor on the X51v is much better. The magnesium case of the 4700 feels much sturdier. Both have the fastest 624 processor available but I'm afraid that HP won't deliver on the promise of WM5 this Spring so that's why I recommended the X51V. Both the 4700 and X51V are great devices. I think that Dell is better on delivering promises and upgrading their products than HP. I haven't actually played with an X51V so I'm curious to see my friend's new X51V late this January when we meet in Phoenix. I'm curious to what Dell has that resembles the iPAQ filestore used to hold additional programs/data. I think he'll like it if he can get through all the WM5 bugs. Hope HP does get us that WM5 upgrade as promised - we'll see :-)
I had an iPAQ, I forget which model. 2700 or 4700. It was stolen a couple months after getting it (or more like I lost it in a known location and it had my contact info on it and I feverishly posted wanted signs and everything everywhere but yet I never saw it again). It was really sad, especially since these things are really expensive! So it made me both guilty but really happy to get it replaced this christmas by the axim x51v. I had no complaints about the iPAQ and I still haven't picked a favorite yet. But I look forward to my x51v showing me its power and rocking its socks off!
here is my history
HP H1945 (horrible, it has random hard reset problem)
Dell Axim X30m (bluetooth problem, always crash after connected with 6230/6820)
HP RX3115 (the best HP device, the worst thing is ROM, only 4MB for user)
HP HX2415 (another horrible device, often has random hard reset problem, screen cracked once, that I have to transplant the screen from RX3115)
Dell Axim X50v (the best device I ever used, pretty stable, the only hard reset issue caused by bad battery contact, once I wiped clena, it fixed), luckily, I didn't upgrade to WM5 (I have no intention anyway, becuase it don't support async over wifi); and now I can use a2dp profile to listen digital audio over bluetooth:)
I went from a Casiopeia 105 to an iPaq 3970 a couple of years ago, and have been using the iPaq without a hitch since then. I use it everyday with a Navman 3450 SE GPS sleeve and Mapopolis... a fantastic combination as far as I'm concerned.
But... nothing is forever, and I have a friend that's been nudging me to buy the setup complete, so next Friday he gets it, and I'm in the process of upgrading. At first I thought about a iPaq 5555 since I have multiple cases, extra styluses, screen protectors, cradles, etc., but I'm about 99.999% sure I'm going with the Axim X51v and either a Globalsat SD-502 or a BT-338. I don't like the looks of the "new" iPaqs, and the Axim looks like an old friend :) only smaller and more powerful. Plus I figure once they figure out WM5 I'll be ahead of the game?
I look at all these PDAs as 2 year products... maybe 3 at best. At that point, if you can sell it... upgrade. Because before you know it, support/compatability will be gone.
This might well be an apples-to-oranges comparison, but I'm fairly new to the PPC world (Axim X50v, I had Palms before that), and I still haven't quite figured out the PDA/mobile phone thing
Main use would be to use as a phone (go figure )
Next would be to use a bluetooth GPS (such as OCN5 and the BT339 which she has seen working with my X50v)
Third is to get her POP email occasionally
I was about to buy a refurbished unlocked iPAQ 6315 for her, for $290. However, I see that T-Mobile (our current provider) is about to start selling the MDA for $350 with a $50 rebate (and a one- or maybe two-year commitment).
Does anyone have any input on the relative merits of these two devices? Especially with regard to Bluetooth - is it crippled on the MDA so it only works with headsets?
Are they both the same class of device, or does the MDA have the "smartphone" OS (as distinct from the dumbphone OS on the iPAQ). I'm aware that the two devices have different operating system version numbers (WM2003 vs. WM5), but outside of that are they different types of OSes?
I have a rx3115 also
It is one of the best iPaqs out there
but whenever I turn it on it turns off and hard resets almost immediatly
Got any tips for this problems or sites to got to to solve it?
I used to use an iPaq 1945 exclusively. Now it is a permanent member of my GPS package in my truck.
I prefer the X51v.

I think it is the backup battery
Would random frequent resets be the backup battery failing?
It happens much sooner when I run WI-FI
Does anyone know where to find iPaq rx3115 backup battery?
I've had my hx4700 for about a year and a half. I got my X51v back in October or November, maybe. But it's been sitting on my desk after maybe two weeks of moderate use. The battery life was much less than I was used to with the 4700, and I got tired of having to reset the machine (probably a problem that's been remedied or explained by now, I imagine). As a former owner of an iPaq 4150, I really liked the form factor of the X51v. I think, though, that the guts of a 4700 in the body of a 4150 would probably be my ultimate PPC. I'll sell the Axim one of these days...
