Interesting finding. I wonder if it's like this for everyone? If so, the fact that the hx4700's discontinued may seem to suggest that they've given up on the project and just wanted to ship SOMETHING out there.

Are all his settings the same as before? I don't see why the battery life would drop THAT much less it's going at max everything, whereas before it may have throttled down some, CPU or screen-wise. Is he doing the same things, with regard to wireless? Have you noticed any patterns to the battery drain? Does he turn it on and it's already at half-power?

He is using it the same way as before the upgrade and is seeing about half the battery run time.We have both looked but cannot find on the hp where to look at the speed setting for the cpu. I suspect it is stuk at 624 but it is not like the Dell where you can set it for auto or a slower speed. the battery does charge up fully but after just minutes off the cradle it is showing battery down to 96% and he isn't using BT or WIFI.

Even with the CPU at full speed it shouldn't be drained that bad. Even having the backlight on full-blast shouldn't do that. Either it's not charging right (and they somehow screwed that up), or else some process is keeping the CPU busy on TOP of turning on the wireless yet not showing it, for it to drain that much. I usually only see that level of drain with all wireless options on, with the backlight on high.

Damn, and I thought the x50 upgrade was bad enough...
