ipaq 2490 vs axim x51v

Very first impressions, I have the axim for 4 hours now

Pro Ipaq

1) the backup battery!!! even if I got the ipaq with the bluetooth (?) bug - the main battery would go dead in a couple of hours with the pda turned off it NEVER lost data, if fact the charge of the backup battery never went under 100% wow

2) The wifi/blutooth connection button on the screen was very easy to use.

3) holding the buttons, the ones under the screen , for more than a few seconds called in secondery function (these were programable!)

3) the PMMA protection screen.

Pro Axim

1) nice display
2) the double of device memory

Let's see what the next few weeks will show me about this new system - I'll be needing the same battery life of the ipaq (2-3 days of 2-3 hours each - not bad especially because there was no worry of loosing the data on a dead battery!)

Well, to be fair, with WM5 you don't NEED the backup battery - you won't lose data with either one of them, even if the batteries go down to 0%. Personally, I've had some problems with teh BT drivers spontaneously unloading, along with WiFi - and you can do the same with the Axim if you use Vito Buttonmapper (the multiple purpose buttons, that is) - it's just how Dell programmed it that was the problem.

Personally, after using both... I can't go back to QVGA. However, the 2490 had nicer buttons (they're not small discs) and the included face shield's better (IMO) than the cloth slipcover the Axim shipped with.

5 days after

well, the 624 mhz performs almost as quickly s the 524 MH< (?) of the ipaq 2490, and the first time downloading of my files led to the fact that axim does not read word documents when downloaded.. for the ipaq that was a piece of cake. the BT modem configuration applet of the ipaq was a dream.. nothing that two days of telephone calls with my telephone company could not solve.

Looks (who cares) is on compaq's side - functionality I'm not sure
