Starting a Flame

Anyone noticed the O2 XDA Flame?
Sounds as an Axim X51v killer.

Xscale(R) PXA 270 processor at 520 Mhz
640X480 with nVidia GoForce 5500 accelerator and video out connector!
128Mbyte RAM and 2Gbyte! Flash ROM
(some say 64Mbyte RAM but on the photo at DinarSoft it shows 128Mbyte)
USB host (USB On-The-Go)
802.11g and GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS
2Mpixel camera (+ VGA secondary on front)
Built-in FM tuner ??
Micro SD expansion slot
and of course Bluetooth 2.0 and IrDa

From the pictures it looks very much like the size of an Axim X50/51
Maybe it's time soon to do some damage to my credit card

:) Will

It shore is purty. I really want a good VGA PDA phone. Probably the fastest processor on the market for a PDA phone thus far, too.

the 2GB ROM is attractive, but what i need is RAM bigger than 64MB. running WAD alone takes up so much ram, then there's textmaker, adobe, etc, i usually use several big programs at once when i'm really 'working' with the axim. so the other features don't impress me much as long as the ram is still 64mb.

Heh, the screen is 3.6 inch. That's smaller than the x51v's 3.7 incher. I'd go for a bigger screened device, such as an HP 4700.

Can you really see the difference between a 3.6 and a 3.7 screen?

Wow. Tha screen is virtually the same size as the Axim. That is huge!! I really need to get my hands on one of these.

Dinarsoft, I know some of your folks had a look at these recently. What did you think?

I think it was great, It's lighter than my Axim with a better screen (the photos didn't show that but that's what I saw).
I told the guys at the stand that I would buy one on the spot even if it's still a beta device and even it's not a quad band.
And the guy told me that I'm not the first one to tell him that, he also add: "If we had a thousand device for sale with us, we would've sold them out in one day"

Wow. The pictures I have seen look amazing. Any idea on when/if they will be available in the U.S., and which carrier will have them??

The guy didn't have any idea if it's even going to be available in the states or not.
but he said : "If we release it in the states it has to be through Cingular" (because of the tri-band thing.

I think that somebody got that backwards: most tri-band devices are 900/1800/1900, and thus CAN'T be used on Cingular (or most of T-Mobile's roaming coverage) because they don't support 850. If this does come to the US--and I wouldn't expect it--it could only do so on T-Mobile.

Being a Canadian, I'm not very familiar with all the networks in the States, I was just repeating what I as told :)

I read somewhere that the marketing folks who decide such things had decided for us all that Europeans liked PDA/Phones without built-in keyboards and those in the USA preferred keyboards. So aside from the tri vs quad vs which of the frequencies issues, it seems that we rarely get a choice.
