Follow-up on the cheap encryption program that I was trying out. I deleted it !! Could have been me, probably was but I couldn't get the password to stay on a file. sometimes it asked for a password, sometimes it just opened without asking. If anyone is interested, here's the url.

Thanks for mentioning this - I'm Crippin's author, and it looks like I need to improve the documentation. The instructions
are documented, but apparently not explicitly enough.
Once you've finished editing or viewing a file via Crippin, you need to close the file (or the application you're using to view/edit it) - otherwise that application may store an unencrypted version some time later.
Once the file's closed, you need to switch back to Crippin and tap on the "Encrypt" button to re-encrypt the file. The password field still contains the password you used to decrypt the file, so you don't need to enter it again. Only at this stage is your data encrypted.
If you close the application, rather than just the file, the re-encryption dialogue should appear automatically, but otherwise you can get to it via the icon on the system tray (bottom of the Today screen) or with a task manager such as
WISBar.
