I know some will disagree with me, but carrying dongles and external parts is not my idea of complete mobility. I got my 2210 to be mobile on the light side and leave my laptop home some times (that inspiron 8200 is good but heavy, well OK my bag is big so I carry more than just the laptop). So an external keyboard was not the way for me. I bought SPB full screen keyboard, and LOVE it. It even has an optionnal French skin (Hey I'm not perfect!). That piece of software changes your PPC screen into a keyboard (in landscape view) et voilą!

You have few options... the only ones you can look at are the I/R ones.. and the new upcoming Bluetooth units... The serial port on your unit does not work so any mechanical attachment is out of the question.

You also need to make sure that the keyboard you choose will be supported. I would wait for the Bluetooth one... at least you will not need to ensure the I/R is lined up. But I don't know if you will be able to run multiple Bluetooth connections with this device. It is due to be released shortly.

I am using a thumb keyboard for my 2215. I am really happy with it, I didn't want a fold out keyboard right now since I am not in classes and with the the slide on thumb keyboard I can easily put it on without having to have any room taken up around me. I really like it, some people don't like thumb keyboards, but since I type through memorization it is easy for me to know where the keys are on it. Good luck finding a portable keyboard though, I will be in your boat in a couple months when classes start up again.

Stay away from the HP keyboard. The right shift key is outside the up arrow and it makes for crazy typing. I had a Targus for my Jornada and it was like a good desktop in terms of spacing, key travel and they're well made. I haven't kept up with the new ones though. Good luck.

lol, yeah, my iPAQ came with both a Targus "Click n Type" thumb-board, and an HP slideout keyboard.

Yes, the right shift is small, and on the right side of the up arrow key.

Its a lovely keyboard to type on though. I just love the feeling of laptop style keyboards, with short yet firm travel.

The thumb-board isnt to impressive. Clips on the bottom. The drivers on the CD dont work, and the config thing on the PPC wont save settings (stays "disabled" unless you hide the program in the background). I was also hopeing that the 8 way direction pad could be used like the 5 way pad on the iPAQ, but no, you have to press and hold the function key for the mouse to change to a pad.

I wouldnt recemend the thumb-board, but i really like the HP keyboard (i dont use the right shift button anyway). A little on the big side, but still a good keyboard.

I use a IR keyboard by Belkin. I got it dirt cheap from Ebay (probably a refurb) and it's given me no problems. I think is was something like US$12 and I did local pickup.

When I had my old Jornada I bought the Pocketop IR Keyboard. Which worked fine. Now I have the Ipaq I cannot use it without the Pocketop IR Extender/Amplifier,which looks, on the website, like some sort of fibre optic infared cable. http://www.ultimatekeyboard.com/index.html
Does any one have one of these? And does it work? I'm trying to decide whether to sell the keyboard or keep it and buy this cable?

I have the Targus IR keyboard, but I don't like it because it is too big and the mechanism to hold your device is very cheap. I just bought a Think Outside IR keyboard and LOVE it! It is more compact and works very well, although there is no dedicated number line. You can pick them up for about $40 or less online.
