Power TomTom bluetooth receiver in car
Hi All,

I currently have an iPaq 4150 and am now looking to purchase a bluetooth GPS receiver and software.

I have deciced to buy a TomTom Navigator 3 bluetooth device as it seems to have good reviews and meets my requirements.

I would like to be able to power the the Bluetooth receiver whilst driving as well as my iPaq and have found an Arkon Universal PDA powered mount with loudspeaker (link below)

http://www.globalpositioningsystems....7&category_id=

On the product desciption it indicates it should be compatible with the 41xx series and there is a 5v DC out on the side of the cradle for powering additional devices.

Is the 5v out compatible with the TomTom GPS receiver, and is this a good solution or should I look at some other cradle.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there

I'm currently using TomTom3 complete with their BT GPS unit in my car - its setup using Seidio's universal car mount whch powers my Ipaq 5550 via USB and also powers the TomTom BT GPS unit via a 5v output port.

I would supply a link but Seidio's website is down at the moment, but it you want some photos of the GPS mount (complete with Ipaq & TomTom) then please ask and I'll see what I can do.

[edit]Just had a quick look at the Arkon mount - its the same as my Seidio! So yes, the 5v output can power the TomTom GPS unit, as long as you're got the right lead....

Thanks for the reply,

In the end I decided to buy a Seido G2500 as it seemed to be the tidiest solution as it offers similar features with the exception you don't have to plug lots of cables in just drop the iPAQ into the cradle.

One thing to watch out for with the TomTom BT GPS is that its very easy to leave it switched on... A number of times I've found that its battery was flat....

Oh, and if you're looking for a case for the GPS unit I recommend an Ericsson ICE-11 case! My phone just happens to be the same same as the TomTom unit and the case fits perfectly...

Thanks for all the advise, I will take a look at the case.

Something else which you may be able to answer is will I need a separate cable to attach the mount to the Bluetooth receiver? ASAIK it doesn't come with the mount but I think there is one with the receiver.

If you remember can you confirm what you received in the box with your TomTom receiver, I seem to get conflicting info from the web sites I have looked at.

Thanks
