Newbie for GPRS/GSM for iPAQ 2215...help
I've posted this in august at "another ppc site" and w/ no luck.

What i want to know and do- is how to be able to use my 2215 as a wireless communicator/web surfer w/out the need of hotspots/local home network. Currently, i have TMobile- which i'm not really into the Cellphone craze so its a basic set up.. I have to find out whether Tmobile offers a service for GPRS/GSM users.. Here's the deal-- what is GPRS and/or GSM? I have no clue as to what the differences are. I've also seen different companies that offers CF card adapters for GSMs and GPRS.. but not sure where to begin and
what i need to look for.

I've been succesful on using my 2215 w/ cF wifi card to surf the net, send emails, read mails, listen to internet radio, make phone calls (skype) - but as long as i have access to internet service via hotspots or local/home network.
Now i want more!!!

Please help

you can use a cf adapter with gprs. there is a slot for your t-mobile sim card. then you get the t-mobile 20 dollar unlimited data plan and your set.

Here is my understanding of it (I have been wrong in my life

GSM is the phone. If you used your phone as a GSM modem, it would come from your minutes and be as slow as a modem.

GPRS is their data service. If you use your phone as a GPRS modem, it will be faster, but you must have some type of data plan.

Either way, you would not be using the wi-fi, as you would for a hotspot. Wi-Fi should also be the fastest.

Right but you explanation is a little confusing to me,

GSM is the Cellular Network used by T-Mobile and Cingular/AT&T. CDMA is the Cellular Network used by Verizon and SprintPCS. The phones are used to either make calls on the GSM network or connect to the GPRS data service.

thanks all for your feedbacks. I think perhaps it would be easier (and less expensive) to get BT phone and connect my2215 to surf the net instead of
using a CF gprs/gsm adapter...

Although, not in a hurry now, holidays are coming (more expenses!!) but at least i have some idea for my options..

Thanks
