Standard Size USB Keyboard
Anyone know if a standard desktop size USB keyboard will work with an iPaq? Specifically the h5550.

I'm having a hard time finding a keyboard I like. Everyone is trying to push the BlueTooth boards, and I'm not interested.

There is a reeeealy basic plain ol nothing fancy USB Keyboard that works with pretty much anything thats USB They they are selling in game stores as the "Sharkboard" or something like that (Theres an Action replay varient thats the same hardware with a different box). Its supposed to be for the Playstation 2, But its a really good keyboard if you want something really super basic. Its only about 10 bucks too.

How are you planning on connecting a USB keyboard to your ipaq?

The iPaq doesn't have a USB connector

The main mothod of connecting keyboards to your iPaq are:
- bluetooth
- infa-red
- Purchasing one specifically made for your ipaq which connects to the slot at the bottom.

I didn't know if a USB coupler/gender changer could do it, by mating the USB keyboard to the cable that you use to sync the iPaq. I wasn't sure if that would work or not, was hoping someone had already tried it.

Won't work. As has been covered on a few different threads, iPAQs aren't USB host devices, which would be necessary for them to be able to use USB devices. I know there's a CF card that enables USB host capabilities, but I don't know exactly what kind of devices you could run on it. Doesn't help for you though, since the h5550 doesn't have CF.

There are some very good bluetooth keyboards, but as said above without USB host support ordinary USB keyboards won't work.

Why don't you like Bluetooth keyboards ?

Probably because Bluetooth is expensive.

I thought he wanted a really basic one so he could cut the end off of it and attach a IR transmitter to the end.

Ghetto rigging hardware saves ALOT of money, I love it
