Why PPC vendor did not use USB port?
Just wondering if PPC vendor would have used the typical USB port cable to Sync directly from the PPC to the PC, we would have another usage for the PPC, direct storage. Can you imagine the many advantage of this simple change? A universal cable for all PDAs. Greed maybe one of the main reason.

My guess is hardware vendors don't want to make drivers.

Good point Paul but the USB cradle already uses a USb port why not leaving the other end as USB too and put a couple of USB outlet on the cradle as well. This would have been so easy for everyone.

Drivers and remember that you need to setup a partnership to use the PPC with your pc...

One thing you have to remember is that although it would be handy for the feature of a storage device, doing this may make the setup for less technical people much harder in the way that they would have to configure the software

I'm with Frenchy on this it would be easier if it was USB and then maybe we could connect USB devices to the PPC without the need for a very expensive adapter, it would improve the flexibility of the devices. Even Apple were forced to see the sense of USB and produce USB iPods.

Well some of the Palms (Tungsten E and Zires) I believe use a mini usb socket at one end and a full usb link at the PC. It was quite controversial at the time because it meant that the Palm Universal connector was no longer universal...

I think it may also limit the connectivity options, in terms of extra accessories (ie keyboards, serial links etc)
