I recently found a used HP Jornada 540 for $2 and I couldn't resist. It didn't come with any cables and I have no idea if it works or not. I've searched ebay to try to find the cables for it, but it usually costs as much for shipping as it does for the cable. Does anyone know where I could find some way to charge a Jornada 540 battery cheap? I really don't want to spend more than I have to until I know if it works. Thanks.

edit: Correction, it's a Jornada 540 SERIES. It has 32 MB of RAM so I think it must be either the 547 or 548. I really don't know anything about the Jornadas so I can't tell which it is. Are all 540-series chargers the same?

Since it seems there isn't any way around it, I'm going to buy a charger off of ebay. I found http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...773769226&rd=1 for $15 after shipping and think it might be a good deal. Does anyone know, if the battery is no longer functional, will the device still be operable when plugged in with this? I know my axim can only get power across the sync cable when the unit is turned off but is it the same when you use the wall outlet connector? I'd appreciate it if someone could get back to me before the auction ends (6 hours).

edit: I decided not to buy it, I'm not convinced that it'd be able to power the device while it's running and I don't want to think the whole thing is broken if only the battery is fried. I bid on a cradle that included the AC adaptor, but somebody outbid me. Guess it's back to square one.

another edit: I found a charger and new battery for $23 so I decided to go for it. Thanks for all your insights, they've been invaluable.
