Question about Windows CE on OLD Jornada 820

I was recently given a new Jornada 820. It's really obsolete compared to my X5 but I'd like to get it up and running with wifi since I really like the large display and keyboard.

I've not had any luck trying to get my Symbol wifi card to work with the Jornada. I've tried the Symbol and Socket drivers with no luck. If I use the Symbol drivers for CE 2.11 the card is detected and activated when inserted. Everything is fine except for the Encryption window...there is a graphics glitch were some words are overwritten and there are no encryption methods listed in the pull down window.
The Symbol driver for CE 3.0 won't install through activesync, same goes for the 3.0 socket drivers.
The Socket drivers for 2.11 installs, but the card is not detected when inserted.

When I pull up the system info it says I have Windows CE 3.0 but under that in parenthesis it says (2.11 core).

Anybody know anything about this ancient thing? I see they command a hefty price tag on ebay so I assume there must be a cult following yet I haven't found any good web boards for it like Aximsite.

I had a Journada 640 (or 680) -- and if I remember right -- as far as wireless goes -- it more than likely ain't gonna happen.

The type-II PCMCIA slot would only take a version 1 (hardware) Linksys PCMPC100 network card, OR something that was FULLY NE2000 compatable.

Weird little beast that thing was.

When you pull up your System Info -- CE 3.0 is indeed a 2.11 core, but is what seperates you from "HP/C" and "HP/C Pro". In my Journada, I had to physically swap out a couple of chips.

I honestly don't even remember what the difference was. Before my x50v, that was my last PDA -- and I haven't had that thing in years.

It's difficult, but not impossible.

I've had marginal success with my Socket WiFi card and my old Z50 (Windows CE Professional).

The Socket CE2.11 driver does work; however, the Z50 takes a very, very long time to access my router, but it does work.

Honestly though, it's not worth the effort, cause browsing with a CE2.11 is painfully slow.
