Treo 700wx - Dial 1 in front of LD numbers.
Does this work for anyone? I have the option checked and the registry key seems to be set (HKCU/ControlPanel/Phone/AreaCodeDial1 = 1) but it won't do it.

If you don't get a response by tonight (DST), I'll ask my son to try it on his 700wx and let you know.

Thanks.

I've done some digging. I can do a hard reset on my device, manually add one contact and then try to call and the 1 does not pre-pend.

I tried it on a few devices and then went into a store for my carrier and they couldn't make it work either.

Seems it's just a feature that was never tested before the phone was released. You'd think that either Palm or the service provider (or ideally both) would at least try testing the basics (like making phone calls) before releasing the device on the market. But alas not.

Unfortunately, my son decided to head to the shore today.

As soon as I can get my hands on his Treo, I'll take a look too.

Sorry for the delay.

No worries. It looks like it's an issue specific to my particular Phone Software version. So it could be JUST my carrier or only a select group.

So what you are trying to do is when you call a long distance number that it adds a 1 in front of it?
if so why not just add your contacts like this 1-333-333-3333 into contacts like that.

Right - that works as a work around, but I really wanted the phone to work as it should rather than me go and edit all my contacts. I only have around 250 or so, but it's a silly thing to have to do.

In the end I went back to a Blackberry. It's a bit more limited in some functions, but at least they got the basic stuff right.

I've been with serveral carriers and on all never have had to dial "1" unless dialing out of country. the network assumes the "1" if a 10 digit number. Wish it would work that way on my home landline. try dialing back a number via caller-id, always forget to add back the "1"...

In some parts of the country, 10 digits are used for local calls as well as long distance. But I have never used a 1 for any calls, local, long distance, or 800#'s, and they have all gone thourgh with no problems. I'm using phones on both Sprint and Nextel.
