Alternate Desktop Email Clients
Ok, I do not use MS Outlook as my desktop email client and never will as long as I have a choice. I use Mozilla Thunderbird, is there a way to sync email with this and my Axim X5 (got it used for a very good price)?

You can set up a pop3 account and get your mail that way. No need to sync with Outlook.

I have found that having it leave the mail on the server is really more of a function of your ISP and the settings they have for remote POP3 access. STMP vs POP etc. The easy way is to set it up and test it to see. For what it's worth, mine leaves the mail on the server. GMail also works well, but that would require you to start using a different account. Good Luck~

I use the Pocket Outlook on my X50V and Thunderbird on my PC. I have it set up so that as long as I do not delete or move the mail on the PDA it remains to be retrieved by Thunderbird (TBird is my "email of record").
If I want to have sent mail show up on the PC I have to send it to myself, of course.

I have a setup similar to AKAJohnDoe. I do not use outlook and I use opera and it's email client. I have everything set up with POP3 accounts.
With this setup you do not sync your email accounts. The "master" email account is on the PC with TB. You set up the ppc's account to leave the messages on the server. I have used the native poutlook, npopw and now WebIs mail on my axim. They all have that feature. They also have features to delete mail locally while still leaving the mail on the server to be retrieved by your "master" PC based account.
Obviously, you won't have all your emails on your ppc and you won't have a record, but it works for me travelling, which is really all that i need. Hope this helps.

OOPS. I leave the messages in the deleted folder and only delete them manually and because of the way I manage the server account, it appeared that I left the messages on the server. I was just archiving them before they could be deleted. The other two programs do have that option.

Is IMAP a possibility for you? IMAP "synchronizes" the inbox in almost all implementations (as people have said above, POP is much more iffy, cf. the weirdness of trying to keep GMail on more than one computer...).
(P.S. it's IMAP vs. POP and not SMTP vs. POP. You use SMTP to *send* mail whether you use POP or IMAP.)
