I already have AS 3.6 installed on my desktop machine, and I had installed it on my old laptop with no problem, but now I'm trying to put it on a brand-new laptop I just got and it can't detect the connection.

Stupid question: At the point in the installation when it says "After installing batteries or plugging in the AC adapter..." that's when you plug in the sync cable or cradle, right? But is the Axim supposed to be connected at that point, or only AFTER the
cable or cradle is plugged in and detected?

I know that sounds dumb, but the instrux in the wizard at that point are vague. And for the life of me, I can't remember how I did the installation with my desktop and previous laptop.

Well, IIRC that is how I did it, yes. I started the install of AS, then, when it wanted to start looking for the device, I plugged in the Axim. The Plug-n-Play then asked for Axim CD to install the USB driver, and then I told AS to start looking for the device.
