Help...Stolen/Lost Axim x50v...Can it be found?????

HELP!!!!

I borrowed my friend's x50v axim along with the Bluetooth gps (and all the cables/connections) just to try in out as I am interested in buying one for myself. My friend is gone for a week and he gave me free reign to try it out while he's gone.

Everything was stolen, slight chance that it started out being lost, but since it's not where it's supposed to be - and it doesn't have legs, it is probably now officially stolen!!! My friend is back in 6 days.

It wasn't password protected so it's free to use without restriction.

Is there any hope of tracking it. Does Dell offer any security or theft prevention options. Would there even be a record with Dell who the owner is?????? Can it be tracked???? As you can tell, my desperation is pretty intense. No point in me calling dell directly as I don't even know the service tag number, as it wasn't mine in the first place.

If it's gone forever, well I guess I'm buying one but not for me; but if there is a chance that it can be tracked I would sure appreciate knowing so.

thanks for any help. As you can tell, I'm pretty desperate

JB

Not good news at all... I don't think there's a way of tracking the device...

The only remote, tiny tiny hope you have is if the person that stole it called up dell, gave them their address and number, and asked for a replacement. (But this is only after you called up dell and filed it as stolen and told them to keep on the lookout for anyone that is not you filing for a replacement)
My calculations, 1/659897446 Chance that's going to happen.

oh man....that doesn't sound good........not at all.

But at least I can do something, and call Dell to put them on the alert.

Thanks for the help. I learned at least one thing (aside from the painful lesson of not being careful enough) and that is that Dell does register individual axims to individual purchasers.

One more question, do I need to know the service tag when I call Dell. My friend's roommate could probably find it for me. Or is it fine to just inform Dell of my friend's name and address?

Thanks again,

jb

You probably need the service tag. But also check on warranty protection with credit cards. Many credit cards will cover lost/stolen property within a year of purchase. It is worth looking into.

There is hope! Chivas Regal and Holy water. Three to four times a day! It'll help ease the pain!

Dell's Protection regarding LOST

For protecting your computer equipment consider Stuff Back Labels for the future. Yes I'm aware that this is after the fact.

****
www.stuffback.com

StuffBak is a loss protection and recovery service. Confidential ID labels combined with StuffBak's return service make it easy (and compelling!) for Good Samaritans, lost & found personnel and police departments to return lost or stolen items.
**********

Dell will do the following - When you contact Dell they ask for personal information. - They will flag the system as stolen in case anyone calls in asking for support on it. You have to file a report with the Police.

***********
Similar Situation regarding Laptops
Search Dell Forum for Stolen Laptop.

*******
No, but you can report it to Dell as stolen, and if anyone ever calls in for service on that laptop, they'll get their phone number and address and then report them to the police. Unfortunately, there isn't a magic microchip that Dell can track to find missing laptops

Lost Ax

Perhaps the Ax was purchased on an American Express card.

Probably not. Sorry, follow the thread and report to Dell's
service department.
