That depends on the type of processor your ppc has.
For Axims you want to use Xscale if you can get it, or Arm if you can't
Enjoy :)

Can somebody explain what the deal is with all these .cab, Arm, Xscale, file types. what are they for, what are the advantages and the differences. Also, where can i find them if i dont want to use zip or exe. most importantly, is it possible to convert zip, exe, rar... to .cab, Arm files?
.cab is the type of file thats used to install programs on ppc. You can find cab files on developers websites or other web sites. There are even some websites that just host .cab files.
You don't need a computer to install a .cab file. For the most part, whenever you see an exe you need a computer with active sync to install it. When you open up the exe on your computer the cab is transfered to your ppc and installed. As psionandy said always go for the xscale, and if not found go for arm.
Usually the PC installer EXEs contain the arm, xscale, mps and sh3 cabs. Once you open up the EXE, activesync picks the appropiate cab type and transfers it to your ppc to be installed.
I hope that made sense.....

it kinda makes sense... What if i don't have access to a compter and all i have is my axim? The powercable on my laptop has been dead for a month, so syncing is out of the question for now. I guess what I really want to know is how do i go about installing softwares without depending on a laptop/ desktop?

you need to be able to get the file on a storage card any way you can be it a card reader or another pda can transfer you the file or copy it to a memory card for you then you need to insert the memory card into your pda and copy it off from there if you dont have access to a computer to load the card for you.
