Using Axim with Edge phone ?

Hi all. I've had several Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phones such as the I-mate PDA Phone, HP iPAQ 6315 & 6515, I-mate PDA2k and now the I-Mate K-JAM. Throughout my experience with these devices I've learnt one thing and that they are unreliable and unproductive as phones for several reasons I won't get into here.

I am considering getting a Dell Axim X51v and a regular Nokia phone with Bluetooth and EDGE and would like to know if it's possible and how easy it is to do the following:
1. Dial contacts from the Axim through the phone via bluetooth.
2. Connect to the Internet on the Axim through the phone's EDGE service via bluetooth.
3. Send SMSes from the Axim through the phone via bluetooth (not very important, just curious).
4. Do any of the above while either the Axim or the phone is connected to other bluetooth devices such as a BT headset.

Much appreciated!

All I can verify is #2 ... I connect frequently through EDGE with my v551/x51v.

You can't use a BT headset with WM5 because the current BT stack is missing the current headset profile. Hopefully, it'll be back in a ROM upgrade, but only time will tell...

On a side note, be cautious when comparing features possible with X50v's if they are still running WM2003SE. (Some have been upgraded to WM5 which would provide you with more accurate info.)

BTW, welcome to Aximsite, Firas!

Thanks for the warm welcome Gigi, and the clarifications. I'm specifically interested in X51v or X50v running WM5 cause I'm considering buying an X51v.

No problem.. tell me what service do u use for your cell provider?? I have gone thru many many smart phones before becoming an axim owner.. everyone saids man how can you carry two devices?? however it has it pros too.. for example I can talk on the phone and still be on the internet or writting that email that I was working on.. which happens more then I thought it would..

I'm in Kuwait and was previously using MTC-Vodafone but have recently switched to Wataniya Telecom due to their better EDGE service.

I used to carry both a PDA & a phone a long time back with the earlier Palm & Handspring PDAs and I found that it was the best combination because each device was very good at what it did. I've tried so many converged devices (Phone PDAs) but haven't been completely satisfied with any that I've come across yet. So I might go the separate device path again ... we'll see.

I owned an axim x3i+ and Nokia 6230i.

when I tried to setup the nokia as a bluetooth modem, the x3i+ said that this device doesn't have a bluetooth hardware (the x3i+?)

the 6230i wont appear on the list [settings, connection, add new connection, bluetooth] even though I already paired the 6230i and x3i+.

Thanks in advance

Can the V551 do edge? I thought it stopped short.
At 115k, I might drop my DSL and get a data plan!
ok maybe not.

Hey, as far a SMS goes, somebody here at Aximsite whipped up a utility for doingthat under WM5. Search for it.
edit: here's the link, enjoy!
