I got all the shortcuts set on the today screen that I wanted. I was quite pleased to find I could put in shortcuts for games and apps on my SD and CF cards. Ran into a problem though. I had to do a soft reset and all of my shortcuts changed to EQ (EverQuest). I lost all the shortcuts I had put in. What did I do wrong? If it is going to lose that info everytime I do a soft reset then what is the point?

That is not normal, and doesn't happen to me. I soft reset all the time just to see the dell logo screen.

When you go to program bar setup area, what do the icons look like there? How about in the programs folder off the start button?

Ok. This is what I am doing. Start>settings>today>items>program bar>options. Then I tap on the icon I want to replace. Then I choose custom program link to enter the path of the program I want to add. When I return to the options screen the icon for the chosen program is there. I tap on ok and make my way back to the today screen. The new icon is there. I can tap on that new icon and access the correct program. Then I do a soft reset and my new icon is gone.

Battery Pack is installed in my main memory. What is really weird is that the new icon I have made a link for is replaced by the EverQuest icon. Not sure what the deal is with that. Maybe it is some sort of default setting?

I am having no trouble with programs that are in my main memory. It is everything that is on the SD card :( I had everything all set up last night and was loving all the pretty icons. Then soft reset and bang! What is the deal?

It sounds like a file association thing ... like when you update WMP, and all your media files get WMP icons.
When the icons are wrong, does it still open the right program?

No. I was hoping that would be the case. But tapping on the EQ icon that replaced the new one I had takes me to EQ. Does that make sense?

Server glitch.
OK, so everquest has been associated with all files? That ain't right.

Q remains, how do the icons look in the prog bar setup list at that point?
How do they look in prog folder?

I've seen EQ take over peoples lives before, but not their PDA's.

<don't forget-I'm a newbie> ;)
Are icons from programs on SD card supposed to show up in the program folder? I guess I don't understand what you are asking.

My thinking is that the train of logic in posting an icon to the today screen is a call to the program according to the path you associate w/ that position in setup. If you look at the very bottom of the screen when you're in prog bar options, whatever icon you select shows its path there, or sometimes just the prog name if it's on the list.
Somehow everquest is being listed for every icon position.
When you go to prog bar options, do the correct icons show up there?
When you click each one in turn, does it show appropriate info at the bottom of the screen?

Try deleting (replacing) each instance of the everquest icon from the setup screen, including all five rows, and try it again. Make sure you press the OK button and not enter from the "keyboard" as I have done with calendar.
If it works now, there may be something wrong w/ the way you entered the path info for everquest.

I'll tell you true, this is hard to do w/o the thing right here in front of me. As if I was an expert anyway!

I will try what you suggested. In the meantime here is something to think about. I tapped on the icons on the program bar options screen. They all are matching in name and location. The only one that is strange is EQ (go figure!). Instead of a link from program files\EQ it just says \program.

That is normal. Just for a test, replace the everquest icon w/ something innocuous, like word, and then see if the problem persists.

I replaced the EQ icon with Pocket Word in the program bar options screen. After soft reset it is still there. I hate to lose my progress on EQ... wonder what would happen if it wasn't on my Axim?

You can try just renaming the EQ exe to exo or something, and then uninstall BatPac and reinstalling. The folder of icons that batpac makes may be corrupted. If all works fine then, as it should, then reinstate EQ and see if the trouble re-occurs. It may just be incompatable somehow.
My only game is minesweeper.
