I am about to buy a new PDA, thinking about the new X51V. I have lots of uses for it and one of them is to be able to download music to it and play songs with it, like MP3's. Does anyone know if I would be able to do that, or would a different PDA be better?
Most Pocket PCs now have Windows Media player 10 built into them... and the X51V is no exception. You can install other players, some of which are free.
You'll want a flash card to store your music on though... either SD or CF

:) Thank you for your help. I had hoped this would be the case, but I have looked all over the forums and couldn't find this answer until now. I think my question was just too basic and most would have already known the answer. Guess I'm showing my age! :approve:
Ive noticed after owning 2 PPC's x5 and x30(624mhz) that PPCs are very bad audio platforms. When playing the same mp3's (128kpbs) from the ppc and from an ipod, the sound in the ipod is obviously cleaner, the silence is more silent without crackles and static, and the audio output dosent go dead and live with a tweeting sound(fixable through crossfading songs, but i dont want do that sometimes). Maybe I just started to notice these problems when i got some Shure headphones, or that the software im using is bad WMP10/betaplayer. But as a music player the ppc just dosent cut the mustard for me. Im sure one of you has got a solution for me?

Which PPC do you have now? The sound chip on the X50/X51 series is made by the same company that makes the sound chip Ipods use, so you may not have that problem if you have one of the later Axims.

Reason: clarified info
But you'll find lots of people saying that the X50/x51 sounds better. If you go to an iPod forum I think you'll find the general consensus is not the same as here :)

I use my X50v for playing music and it has a 1GB sd card + a 512 Cf. That is all that I need. Why have a lot of music when you can't listen to it all anyway. Just takes up space. Just my toughts.

Dan, , again. to aximsite. There are better specialized machines for just about everything you can do with the ppc, but as an all purpose, simplify your life and gadget carrying, the axim can't be beat.
Yes, I prefer to watch my my dvds on the family TV, and I prefer my music on vinyl, when I'm really into listening to music. But to able to do all of this with one machine and in a variety of places and situations is just awesome. The geewhiz factor might just be my age!
I listen to music with my X50v and TCPMP. Sounds pretty good to me and I don't have to shell out $$ for another player (or carry around another gadget). :approve:
