I am a new Axim x51v owner. It says here that no questions are stupid so here goes...I can't seem to get a handle on the Windows Media Player 10 Mobile compatability issue.
Is the Axim x51v a compatable device for any subscription-based DEVICE downloads such as "Napster To Go"? I've looked at every subscription service I can find and none of them list the Axim as a compatable device.

As long as they list compatible with Windows Media Player, I don't see why they wouldn't be fine. iTunes is obviously a no-go, but all others should be fine.
Oh, and straight from the Napster FAQ - Compatible MP3 Player: Windows Media Player 7.1 or higher. Windows Media Player 10 Series is recommended as it improves streaming quality and reduces buffering times. You can get Windows Media Player from Microsoft.

I have an X51V with CF memory and a Napster to go subscription. Napster recognizes the Axim and the CF card. I am able to transfer music to the card using Napster and playback using media player. unfortunately, though, the transfer process is far from smooth and easy. Napster reports errors after only a few titles are transferred. I believe that this is because AS syncs automatically every 5 minutes and interferes; I have yet to figure out how to stop it.
I've got a pretty substantial tune stash now, but it took way more effort than it should have. <<<<grumble, grumble>>>>
I've been using Rhapsody to Go for quite a while now with my X50v for quite some time now. Works great. I just transfer the files to my SD card, and listen to them in Media player. They sound great (at leasts to me). They also have the trial period to give it a tryout.
Hello,
I've been trying both Rhapsody to Go and Napster to Go this past week since setting up my Axim X51v. Rhapsody doesn't recognize it and when I try and transfer onto the SD card, it won't allow it. I am using the Rhapsody interface. Should I be transferring from WMP10 instead? As for Napster to Go, I was able to transfer a couple of times in the Napster interface, but had the same problem as waterguy13--started getting errors in Napster and the same songs keep syncing onto my card after I remove them. Again, would syncing songs via WMP10 onto SD card solve these problems? Any info/help would be great. I prefer Rhapsody to Napster and if I could get Rhap-to-Go to work with the Axim, I'd be set!
Thanks in advance,
Vince
I've tried Napster-to-go (2 devices a Dell Ditty for my daughter and my Ax), Rhapsody-to-go and Musicmatch oon Demand portable. I have a CF and SD card, so Napster-to-go reads 4 devices every time I conect. Subsequently, it reads the SD card (my primary music stirage) as a new device evey connect so I cannot sync or transfer music. Rhapsody worked ok, but it doesn't let you transfer tracks to more than 3 devices (reading the Buil-in sotrage, CF and SD card as well as the memory on the Ax). Musicmatch almost never worked right. It almost always reject my transfer to portable rights. I'm looking @ Yahoo right now.
Is an Ax compatible w/ Napster-to-go? Maybe. I emailed their tech support and got a no answer answer.
Not that I reccommend this (this is my disclaimer).. why dont you use a p2p program such as ares or limewire and download then transfer? Works great.. Also, why is everyone using WM10? Am I missing something? It seemed to me that there were a lot of holes, the largest of which is not being able to create playlists... I use TCPMP.. its phenomenal!!

Realistically? ... With roughly 18-20GB of MP3's in my collection, if it all made it onto a service like that -remember how Napster used to automatically add media from your HDD - I promise you the RIAA would be at my house w/ a summons in a matter of minutes.
As I've grown older it begins to make more and more sense to get legit, simply because of my lack of desire to get fined or go to jail. The amount to gain vs. the amount to lose for me personally has begun to sway towards not wanting to lose my a$$ monetarily if the RIAA decides to sue.
That's why I don't use Limewire or anything like it.

Yahoo Music Engine never recognizes my X51V - did you have to anything particular to get it work with YME?
Absolutely nothing - just attached the sync cable, and worked fine. I don't think this would make a difference, but I don't use a cradle to sync, just a travel sync cable. Also, I am using WM2003SE, not WM5 - could that be an issue? How about your version of activesync? That's all I can think of - without an x51v to test, I can't tell
