Outlook Alternative

Ok I can assume that SOMEONE has asked this, however I probably am not searching through the forums using the right search terms.

I have officially given up and am fed up with the bloatware that is MS Outlook. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a solid PIM that will sync my tasks, Calendar and Contacts? I don't sync email as I have the wi-fi on my x30. I am just all kindsa pissed with Outlook and would LOVE another alternative... :) Thanks!

1. My big problem is the bloat. It's too much for what I need. The Palm PIM software I used to use was fine, it was just simple.

2. I'm on an older laptop all the time, and Outlook takes forever to load. And like I said, for just a desktop version of tasks, calendar and contacts, all the extra junk included is just stuff I don't need that slows down the app.

Let me preface that I don't like MS products in general, however I don't want that to be the focus of this question. I'm simply looking for a slimmed down desktop application that can give me control over my information that doesn't have the bells and whistles that Outlook does.

I can only assume that there are other options, however I have not had any luck with Google or anywhere else, which is why I figured I'd check here. :)

This is kinda nice (I use the desktop version on my Laptop) . . . looks like they now have a version that works with PPC.

I assume you use the Desktop app and sync with the PDA?

Does this just connect over Active sync, or another conduit?

And were there any issues you had when syncing to the PDA?

:soap: Be forewarned. I use as few M$ products as posible, I didn't even think about Outlook until activesync demanded that it be on my computer.

That said, I use Lotus Organizer, and have since version 3. I sync using PDAsync by Laplink. I even used my old mac laplink disk to get a rebate, so this was a not very expensive workaround for me. The only thing that is really lacking is the ability to sink notes from the organizer notepad.

No, I don't sync with my laptop, only my office desktop with Outlook.

Like you, I chose not to install the "bloated" Outlook on my laptop, but wanted a calendar, appointment, etc app to run and found this (I think it was recommended on a separate thread)

If you read the requirements, Activesync is required.

There appears to be a free demo, so give it a try.

Good luck ...

Glad to see someone else with the same mindset :) :approve:
I still am using my palm desktop calendar and contacts. Have not yet installed outlook. I hate the idea of installing it and then having to do a format and image reinstall if and when I find something to replace it. :rolling: Starting to get desperate now that I have my ax running pretty smooth. Calendar and contacts one of the main reasons for buying this darn thing.

Outlook (back in the Win95 Days) was not very good; seemed like you could break it. Since Outlook 97, though, it's darn good. I've used every version since '97 (now using 2003) and it just flat does the job. Not sure why you're having such trouble with it. You can set it up to be about as simple as you would need, just turn some things off that you don't want to see. Between that and Pocket Informant 2005 on the Ax it just rocks.

Did I read that wrong, or did you find a way to sync the Palm desktop to your Axim?
