Registry edit I need to change a .dll to eserial
Am I capable of doing this with a good registry editor? In order for my GPS CF card to work Haicom wants me to remove this and copy another into the program. These edits are only for their program it seems they make it seem so easy when the say Dear Sir,
Please remove all the previous driver and install the attached driver ONLY for the HI-305III on Dell Axim x51v.
Can i backup if i screw up? I was gonna try Resco File explorer any suggestions?

Sounds like they just want you to delete a certain dll from their program and replace it with another one. Shouldn't have to edit the registry at all to do that, just use resco to delete and the explorer window in Activesync to put the new file in. If you want to back up the old version just copy the dll you are supposed to remove to somewhere on your computer.

You can use File Explorer to delete the .dll in your 51V since you know the filename; the file extension will not be display.
Next, from your desktop, select Explore in ActiveSync to open a window to display your 51V folders. Open another window using Windows Explorer (PC). Then drag the new .dll from your PC to your 51V.
Done.

Dock you Axim (ActiveSync). Open a window with ActiveSync's Explore. Browse to the folder & locate the OLD file "ELSerial.dll" in your Axim. The filesize should be ABOUT 55.4Kb. Delete it.
The file that they send you is "ELSerial(2).dll". From your desktop, rename it to "ELSerial.dll". Browse to the folder where you have just deleted the file. Next, drag the NEW file (ELSerial.dll) from your desktop & drop it in your Axim where you have just deleted the older version.
Done. :approve:

You probably have your computers folders set to not show system files (this is the default) and that is why you couldn't see the dll file in your explorer.
