I've a brand new X51v and everything seems to be fine except when I try to install a program (and I've tried several). They all end with ActiveSync displaying the following message:
Application Manager cannot install this application on your mobile device due to an invalid setup file. Reinstall and try again.
What is "Application Manager"? Part of ActiveSync? Is the install I'm supposed to try again the installation of ActiveSync itself? If I click on Help/About it reports that I have ver 4.1.0 installed.
I cannot find that error message in any knowledge base and haven't a clue what is wrong.
You have an error wiht the way your device is set up. Try www.freecabs.de for now, download the cab, and then copy and paste it to your axim using as if it works. Somebody else may no how to fix that.

I installed ActiveSync on a different computer and from that one, programs install just fine. The problem is not with the Axim but with my primary desktop pc. And I may have a clue to the problem. I found this in the MS knowledgebase:
"If you try to install an application to a MS powered pocket pc device that requires ActiveSync to install, you may notice the following error message...
Invalid Windows CD Setup Files: Application Manager cannot install this application on your mobile device due to an invalid setup file. Reinstall and try again."
That is exactly the message I was getting. And what do they say the cause is?
"To install any application to a Pocket PC device, you must be logged on to the computer as a member of the Administrator group or must have Admistrator rights. If you try to install the application as an Administrator when you are logged on to an account that does not have Administrator rights, the installation will fail."
Interesting. I'm the only one that uses this computer and XP says my logon account is as an Admistrator, but I suspect there's a registry entry wrong somewhere. I've had other problems in the past (software updates totally unrelated to this subject) that have also failed.
Don't know where to start debugging the registry but in the mean time I can use the other pc to load programs.

You need to grant yourself/users full admin rights in order to install programs. It's in Control Panel. I don't have a PC now, you should find it under Users & Password. If you're the only user, then its safe to grant "everyone" (guest, etc) full admin rights.
There's only two accounts on the pc, Administrator and mine (which is also an administrator's account with full rights). For grins I logged on as Administrator and again tried to install programs to the Axim. Alas, I got the very same error message.
Activesync connects just fine, I can move files from the pc to the Axim, use Explore, etc. I can even see the programs listed (installed from a different pc) under the Tools/Add/Remove Programs.
Windows firewall is off, I've made the required changes to Sygate to allow communication (have even tried with it completely shut down) but this pc refuses to let me install programs on my Axim. Activesync 4.1 has been deleted and reinstalled. No change. Yet I take my Axim to the other pc, no problems.
I just know the problem is something simple, but I'll be darned if I can find it.
