First, thanks for creating this forum I don't feel so stupid now.

I keep seeing ARM MIPS SH3 show up on software download links. What do they mean? Different OS'? Different hardware?

Thanks in advance

Different processors used in PPC's. Microsoft settled on supporting StrongARM (ARM). Xscale emulates ARM, so ARM software runs on the Axim.

Thanks for the reply, now I know which version of the software to download. Anyone know what MIPS SH3 mean?

Just names. I don't know if they mean anything at all.

I am not sure if they actually MEAN anything, but I do know that MIPS is Casio. ARM tends to be IPAQ, and I THINK that SH3 is Jornadal

Arm means the processor uses the Arm Technology Inc. processor standard. All Pocket PC 2002s, Ipaqs, Palm OS 5 based handhelds, and even Nintendo Gameboy Advance (though it is a lower and slower version) use Arm processors.

MIPs is a Casio designed technology if I remember right, and was designed for consumer devices like remote controls. I forgot if Mips was an acronym or not. Casio handhelds before the E-200 used Mips.

SH3 is by Hitachi. SH3 stands for Super H version 3. The HP Jornada 5XX (the 6XX use arm) PPCs used SH3. The Sega Dreamcast uses a SH4 as its main processor (with an Arm for a sound processor).
