n00b looking for tips and advice

I just recieved my first PDA today (a nearly new x50v I purchased off eBay) and am happy I found this site.

It arrived with WM5 already installed. From what I've read here, I'm not so sure this is a good thing. Do you guys think I should take it back to 2003se, or leave it alone and see if I have trouble with it?

Also, if you have any suggestions for essential apps and hacks those would be greatly appriciated! I'm probably going to use it mostly for keeping contacts, wifi web surfing, watching video and playing games in my free time.... I'd also like to surf the web tethered to my cell with IR (if it's even worth the trouble) and eventually via BT once I get a BT phone.

Congratulations on your purchase!

I personally would roll back. 2003se is more than capable of handling the tasks you want to perform. I tried upgrading my X50v to WM5 and had nothing but troubles with it. I've since rolled back to 2003se.

Some essential applications that I would recommend would be:

Pocket Informant
Pocket Breeze
SPB Pocket Plus

I would also recommend that you buy a screen protector and case.

I have the following:
Case: Rhinoskin
Screen protector: theinvisibleshield.

That should be enough to get you started.

I would wait to see how it works for you and what problems you will run into. Bonus is you can trash the software by trying a lot of programs befor you flash
