Aximsitex50icon Why my Axim turns on after 5 min sitting on the cradle

Hi, many thanks for this excellent site. The more I read the more I learn and I would like to thank all the admins and users for their posts and guides which made me decide to buy Axim x51v and it worths every euro I paid for.

One single problem keeps annoying me and I am a newbie so it may sound stupid but my axim is sitting on the cradle and I turn it off so it can chage (Amber light) then may be after 4-5 minutes it is connected again to Activesync and axim is on so it stops charging. I am doing Full Power Off but this is not a solution. Another walk around is taking it off the cradle but it will not charge anymore. There must be something wrong or an option in activesync to prevent this but I don't know how to do it.

Can anyone help me with this.
Thanks in advance !!!

Hi,

This is a well known issue that is to do with the unit trying to sync with an exchange server. Search here for the 'Fake Server Hack'

A couple of things you can do.

1) Plug the AC adapter into the cradle so that it will charge whether the Axim is turned on or not. It will only charge when it is turned off when only charging from USB.

2) If you do not want it to turn on automatically then completely shut down ActiveSync on your computer until you want to use it. The best way to do that is to press ctrl+shift+esc, go to the Processes tab and find wcescomm.exe. Highlight it and then click End Process and then click yes. After that do the same thing for WCESMgr.exe if it is there. That should make it stop trying to sync every five minutes.

I am not sure that the fake server trick will make it stop doing that when connected to the computer through the cradle as it still does it for me even after I did the fake server trick. As far as I know, the fake server trick makes it stop trying to sync to an online exchange server when not connected to the cradle which would cause it to turn on automatically when not on the cradle.

I have the same problem. Unplugging the USB cable is my current "solution".

Many thanks guys. I really don't know how to thank you. I found that the power plug in not fited well. Now I plugged it into another socket and it is charging at last !!!.

I used to turn off wcescomm.exe but it keeps going on again but I did not know that there is another program WCESMgr.exe

I will try the fake server trick and I hope it will work. I will write my experience here.
Many thanks

I fixed it.

Actually, I followed the steps mentioned for doing a fake server but it is very IMPORTANT not to delete the fake server after putting the schdule to manual, otherwise the problem exists. So keep the fake server and uncheck all the options for syncing and it will work. I am using Activesync 4.1 on Dell Axim x51v.

I hope I helped somehow.

Aximsitex50icon Fix For All

HERE IS THE FIX OF YOUR LIFE FOR THIS PROBLEM. WORKS WITH FAKE SERVER VERY GOOD

Update:

Instead of going through all that, I went and trace for that option and I found where the value is located in the registry.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ActiveSync\Engines\{176F 4FFD-F20C-4bd4-BDD7-01D0726C567B}\Settings] SyncAfterTimeWhenCradled (0)

Try that I found it.

grmiller I opened the registery but I did not fine ActiveSync under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System

I searched but with no use. I created the key you mentioned. i hope it will work on my PC. Let's cross fingers and see.

FYI !!!

fake server is intended to work only when device is UNDOCKED
... when device is docked ... don't expect it to stay off synching at interval ( you would need a 3rd party software for that ) !!! :approve:

Kazkin, what do you suggest for 3rd party software?

I tried the end task method suggested by PabloPowell for wcescomm.exe and WCESMgr.exe. Although Activesync is closed the device has connected again to the internet without activesync. I think only left is to unplug the USB cable but I am waiting for other solutions if possible.

that doesn't work no matter what number I put in there ... test it with 10, 20, 30 ...and including 0 ... and softreset everytime too ...

still syncing every 5 minutes when cradle !!!

Another fix

When I want to charge with USB I simply right click on the Activesync icon on my desktop, select connection settings, and uncheck "allow USB connection". This stops it from syncing every five minutes and it takes 2 seconds. When you want to sync again, simply check the box.
