Just did a brief search on e-bay and havent a clue what to go for. I am not quite up to speed on SD and CF memory and unfortunately the forum for memory doesnt actually have any guides or stickies. Please dont think I am lazy by not fully researching and just asking you guy's questions but haste is paramount in me getting the missus setup with this PPC for her business.

So back to the questions:

1) In brief and simplistically what is the difference between SD and CF in relation to my PPC and do i need both. Is one for storage and the other function like RAM in a normal PC.
2) There are lots of offers on ebay what prerequisites are there i.e. speed, manufacturer brand etc. and can you point me to some good deals for SD and CF cards.

Again thank you all for imparting your wisdom. Its been critical. The missus is seeing more and more potential in this PPC.

1) they are different shapes ;) well there are other things but that's what it boils down to. SD is a little faster and more expensive. CF is cheaper and available in larger sizes. but they both do the same thing.

2) I got mine from ebuyer.com and they do have a rather cheap 1gb sd card at the moment. Pretty much any should work but you may want to avoid microdrives

MMMmm thought that it was too good to be true with everything going so well. Hit my first issue. I cant see some icons (they were fine yesterday), well they are not displaying properly to be accurate. They are there but kinda blacked out like somone has scribbled over them in black pen.

start-settings-sytem - all icons except brightness blacked out
start-settings-connections - all icons blacked out

I was thinking back to my earlier post, is it possibly a memory issue i.e. insufficient RAM ???

I recollect (a bit hazy....too much Jack Daniels) last night that the screen went wonky and was covered by blocks. I just moved my stylus around and it cleared off ????

Please dont tell me this is the signs of things to come.

Additionally it could be a software issue? I have put on Pocket Breeze and everything that came with it and Informant 2005 again with everything with it.

Please advise

Thanks

Managed to resolve this one myself. I uninstalled the afore mentioned programs, soft reset and the icons were fine. The soft reset may well have done the biz itself.

Right back to my endless questions and note that I have stumbled on to alot of ecellent guides now. They just havent been put for easy finding i.e. stickys in the forum but they have actually been added in the tutorial section (accessed from top tab dropdown menu's).

The SD Memory, in an earlier post it was mentioned the max for the cards is 4gb SD and 8gb CF. I did a bit of research on the Kingston site I think at it says the max available (that is supported) for a X50V is 2gb and 4gb respectively - Please verify ? Based on this I went to the recommended e-buyer to look at 2gb cards:
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/104113

there are a lot of other manufacturers and varying prices. I was just going to plump for the 1st one (viking) but I am sure things are often cheap for a reason. Can you tell me if the Viking is suitable in mind that I will now be running my less critical programs there (rather than using RAM or ROM). Transfer Speeds etc. ??

I must add that MAGIC BUTTON and MEMAID are fantastic tools. I was raising my eyebrow because the RAM was sooooooooo low. This was a combination of me running everything on my Main Memory and not realising all the packages were still running which wasnt apparent. Well I have now reinstalled my programs in line with psionandy (and the mem guide, manage to miss it 1st time round Andy lol) and using magic button I close the programs properly. The second ..... wow ....... a wee bit of internet browsing and a bit of program use the RAM dropped to 18. I ran MEMAID and it brought it up to 24 ????????? awsome.

Slowly getting there !

That's actually the best way to learn about your system, playing around with different stuff and figuring out what works best for you. I'm glad you were able to resolve some of the issues you were having.

As for memory capacity, other members here have used 4GB SD cards and 8GB CF cards in their X50v with no problem.
