I recently recieved a CF II storage for my Dell from SimpleTech and the insert stated that
these cards need to be formatted on a regular basis.
As an example, it said that after downloading a number of images to your PC (they were assuming you were using the card in a digital camera), you should reformay the card.

Is this format requirement for real?
Can formatting be done with the Axim or do you need something else?

I format my cards if I do ALOT of installing/uninstalling just to be safe. The one time my CF card messed up, when I soft reset my Axim, it told me that in order to read my card, it needed to be formatted. When I said, OK, the Axim then proceded to format the card. You can also use the program called FlashFormat to format all of your storage cards. Here is the link to the product: http://www.cnetx.com/format/ .
