Been on computers for so long, but lack of cash left me behind in technology. I remember teh days of my 486 laptop, with MegaTF quake. Hmm...I wonder if the dell could play that :-). Never thought that i'd be a newb again :-) .Anyways, With advancements in age, and getting a job, money gets up there. Long story short, I now am getting up to date with technology, and I never thought I'd be able to get a good PDA for a low price. I ordered the dell about a week ago, and I'm waiting for it. However I wanna know what everybody here uses there pda for. I just want ideas. Creative, Conventional, Convienient is what I wanna know. I look forward to being here.
I ordered the 400 Mhz version of the Axim, and I was wonderin, What kinda expansion cards are there. WHats teh cheapest Wireless card. thats about it for now.
I hope I don't get a dud like other people have, but I'm not that negative.

Oh side notes on myself.

I keep my contacts and calendar in there. I'm taking classes for my MCSE so I put in my assignments and some class notes. Last night I made an ice cream run and jotted a quick note in it about what everyone wanted me to get for them. I sew, I'm putting in all my favourite patterns and how much fabric is required for each so when I'm in a fabric store I can see right away what I need if a fabric inspires me. I put my shopping list in it. I'm going to put my genealogy database in it so I can take it with me when I do research. I play games on it. I read books on it. ...and I've only had it 3 days... ;)

I've had mine a week now and so far I use it for the basic PIM stuff, a few games and I'm going to download some ebooks to read. I bought the pocketop keyboard but have yet to hook it up. My main reason is I spend a lot of time at our cabin (weekends and all summer) and this will be my "laptop" version. I will have all my dates and schedules etc... recipes from home, lists of stuff to take back and forth, ferry schedules, appointments and all 3 of my kids schedules on it too. That way I'll know when, and if, we HAVE to go back to town. I think it is going to simplify my life....and give me some enjoyment too.

There's another thread going on titled "My Axim is a...."

Anywho... I didn't post there, so I'll list the stuff that I use my Ax for other than chopping down trees...

Besides the usual builtin PIM, Word, Spreadsheet, VoiceRecorder, WebSurfing, etc., I also use it as a:
- Metronome
- Instrument/ Frequency Tuner
- Music composer
- 'Drum machine' (u gotta hook it up to a sub-woofer)
- Console emulators (Mame/GameboyColour,Advance/NES/Gamegear...you name it!)
- Dictionary/ Encyclopaedia/ Reference Texts/ Newspaper (AvantGo)/ eBooks
- Remote control
- Map
- Wireless Graphic tablet for PC (I use a WiFi setup to ActiveSync, and use PocketTablet)
- Flashlight
- ICQ
- Finance tracking
- Sci/Graphing calculator
- Photo viewer/ editor (load it straight from my DigiCam and do minor enhancements, etc..)

Cheers.

CircusB0y,

I can tell you're from the old tech games by your avatar. That's the little guy from the 7-UP game on the old mono Game Boy!! It tries to run in color on the new GB, but looks pretty weird. I loved that game!!! I may just dig it out and play it again.

I'm a 'gadget nerd' (my hubby's name for people like me) so the old tech gets buried pretty fast around here. I'm the only person I know who has an original Sony mini-disc player...first model that came out...wouldn't even record then. Just played prerecorded discs. Of course, it has be relegated to the back of the stuff shelf in favor of mp3 player even though I now make my own mini-disc recordings w/ my combo cd/md player/recorder unit.

Please tell me what programs you're using for that. What a great idea, especially the metronome.

For tuner, I find "Frequency Tuner" to be the best because of its small size, and its free!

For metronome, use the builtin feature of PocketPiano -- it also has PerfectPitch test, etc.. Really cool for practice!

Cheers!

Right now I am mostly playing games :) I love the games! I also use it as an alarm clock. Oh and I play music, too. Someday I will grow up, but probably not anytime soon. I like my toys too much! :P
