I am working on a borrowed axim and trying to install software on to the cf card. I see the option to install software in either memory or sd but no option for the cf card. Am I missing something there?

OK:

First make sure that you have a CF card inserted (which I assume you probably do)
And then try a soft reset by pushing the reset button on the back of the device. (CAUTION: Do not press the power button while pushing the reset, it will erase all data on the PDA!)
Other than that I really can't help you, because I have never had these problems

Some programs will install to a CF card.
Some programs will install to a SD card.
Some will install to either a CF or SD card.

However, some will only install to built in memory.
Depends on the program.

As Rice Lover states, "Be sure you have a CF card installed."
