I recently wanted to transfer a file to a friend's PDA, but he owns a Palm. He cautioned me against even attempting to beam him the file because he was told by a friend that this PocketPC/Palm beaming had messed up his PocketPC...has anyone heard of such a problem, or is this just a bunch of garbage.

Secondly, is it even possible to transfer between PocketPC and Palm?

Thanks everyone.

Your friend is wrong. Neither device will be harmed from beaming.

My Handspring beams contactsand appointments beautifully between it and Ipaq. Aim has a known problem with beaming between anything. A few Axim owners have posted that theirs beam fine but most, like me, can hardly get it to connect via IR with anything.

Peacemaker has worked great for me so far. I have beamed may contacts, files, and pics to a co-worker with a Palm. I have around 15 days left on the 30 day trial. I think I may have to send them some money after the trial period is up.

Although, I may first give the other two cross platform beaming apps a try, EZBeam and mBeam. I haven't been able to find out much about either of these apps yet, other than the fact that they exist.

You've gotta love the 'try before you buy' approach that PDA software developers have taken! :D

I installed Peacemaker v1.2 and have been unable to beam notes to my coworkers that have palms. The last one I tried beaming to was a PalmIIIxe running Palm OS v3.5x. Nothing!! I am however able to slowlybeam to other Axims and Ipaqs. As far as I'm concerned Dell should champion its cause and fix their IR port! Any other beam translators out there?

Depends on what yoru beaming

I have downloaded the Peacemaker and have been transfering files from my Palm V. I have found that the type of files being beamed has a lot to do with the speed. All of my "notes" on my Palm transfered very fast. However contacts saved in Outlook are not doing as well. It may have soemthing to do with the fact that I have Lotus Notes on the Axim and have to use it at work. However all things said the beaming is no worse than my Palm V.
I have not decided to purchase the Peacemaker yet but unless something better comes alog I probably will.

Found a good one

I have been using EZBeam for a couple of days now and have been successful in transfering notes, contacts, appointments etc from my Axim to Palm (v 3.0 and UP). I would definitely recommend it.
