Axim found dead

I was keeping my Axim in my pocketbook, in the case that came with it from Dell. Didn't use it for three days. Took it out and nothing. I was scared that it had been bumped or something and I hadn't realized it.

When I got home and put it in the cradle, it came on. I checked the power and the regular battery was at 0 and the backup battery was at 60%. I fully charged it and the next day the backup battery went back up to 100%, too.

Question: What happened and how do I prevent it? Does the case push on the on button? I thought it shut off automatically after a preset time? Is there a way, like with cell phones to "lock" it so it can't come on inadvertently?

Thanks so much for any help you can give!

Bette

Sorry, there's no lock. You can get a hard case. You can go to Settings / System / Power. Check "Battery: Turn off device if not used for ..." Unclick "Turn on device if a program button is pressed."

Three days is a little long to go without a charge. The Ax never turns off. The battery has to keep the RAM alive so you don't lose data. Why not charge it every night? The Li Ion batteries in the Ax love being charged.

BTW - the backup battery doesn't recharge. Just to be safe, you might want to buy a new one at Rad Shack for a few bucks.

Lithium batteries like to be charged most as possible, dont let them drop under 20% or discharge alot. it lowers the life of them

Actually you can setup the Axim to not turn on when the program and/or record buttons are pressed. You'll find this in Settings/System/Power on the Control Tab. I have mine set up so that nothing turns it on except the power button on the top, which being recessed a little doesn't seem to be accidentally pressed.

The case that comes with the Ax from Dell has a reputation for this very proble. The real solution is to use and charge your Ax every day. You are not properly addicted yet. I suggest hypnotherapy.

Big Smile

Thanks so much for all the info. I never would have figured out that it's "on" all the time. It makes sense now. I bought a new back up battery. I read somewhere on this site that the batt readings are deceiving. I guess! Just before I bought the battery, a warning message came on telling me it was dangerously low. a little while later, it said 100% again. I'll order a hard case. I changed the settings for turn device off, etc. A coworker calls it my "Baby Dell" so now I put Baby Dell in the "cradle" every night
to charge and play with it every day.

I am properly addicted, just was sick for a few days, then my son's race car kind of took over our lives. Because I had just gotten it, I hadn't explored all it could do or loaded all my stuff on yet. When I first got it, my husband asked if I was plugged into the Axim.:D

Thanks,

Bette
