Hmm just bought my axim x51v but can't successfully download to it!

Hi. I sent this message last night, but can't find it tonight. oh well. Here I go again---I bought the Axim 51 with visions of carrying a whole medical reference library around in my pocket. Alas. when I try to download to it, all goes well, until the end. Then my little Axim reports: "installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate." What is going wrong!? please help me.

Yes i read your post last night.

What software was it. This would help. Maybe a link to the site where you get it, or the name of it.

Welcome to the site!

Misty42. I was new to this site not too long ago, so I understand your confusion.

If you posted a thread here, the best way to check responses to your thread is to do an Advance search using your own name (Misty42). For example, using the Advance search function, I was able to find the other thread you left:

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=137886

Someone already left a response to your question. But for your question, it is not clear to me when the trust certificate shows up (on your PC or on your Axim?). If it is on your Axim, you may respond "Yes" (the left soft key) so that the software is installed.

People in this Forum are very willing to help (I have been helped successfully many times). But you need to describe your problem a little bit more detailed so that others can troubleshoot your problem. By the way, which medical reference did you try to install? Is it the one from Pocketlingo?

i'm learning (a little)

I was at the skyscape site: www.skyscape.com I tried to get my free trial down load of the American Heritage stedman's medical dictionary. I tried last night and then tried again tonight. My Axim is reporting that it has a problem with gwes.exe and therefore could not complete the download. When I click on the Dorlands icon on my Axim I get the message: "data file for Dorlands was not found. please install data file and try again." Do you think there is a solution , easy or hard? thank you, whoever helps me!:)

I took the time to go to skyscape and downloaded a trial version. The software is now on my Axim x51v, seems working properly without any problem. But the process you described is different from what I have experienced. I didn't see any gwes.exe warning. There is also not a Dorlands icon my my Axim. So I suppose you may have downloaded the wrong thing. Here, let me walk through what I have gone through successfully. May be you can repeat it.

Step 1: On your desktop/laptop PC, go to the following link for the Stedman's Medical Dictionary 28th edition (it has no menion of the "American Heritage"):
(http://www.skyscape.com/estore/produ...productid=1447) and click on free trial.

Step 2: The website will ask you to create an account. If you had downloaded something from the website, I suppose you can re-enter the info. Otherwise, create a new one. After that...

Step 3: There was a screen asking you to select (1) Operating System, (2) Platform, and (3) Devices. Please select Windows for the operating system, Mobile Device or the platform, and Windows Mobile/Pocket PC/Smartphone as the device. Click "Find Download"

Step 4. Download the 22M file "stedman28_ce.exe" to your computer. I downloaded it to my desktop.

Step 5. Before running the file after it is downloaded, connect your Axim to your PC. Make sure your Activesync says "Connected"

Step 6. After you run "stedman28_ce.exe" on your desktop/laptop PC, it will create a directory on your PC. It will request you to re-enter your account info (the info you entered on the website) before it will install the software to your Axim. During the process, the PC pauses for 1 minute for one of the files, so be patient. The firewall on my PC told me that during installation, the software tried to contact a remote server.

Step 7. After the installation is complete, the screen on my PC will ask me to check on my Axim to see everything is doing OK (a routine procedure).

Step 8. Your Axim "may" tell you that the software is from an unknown publisher and ask you whether it is ok. I suppose you can say Yes.

Step 9. Your Axim will ask you where do you want to install. I suppose you want to install it in a memory card because the file is VERY larage.

Step 10. The Axim will confirm the software was installed successfully.

Step 11. On your Axim, Click Start->Program, and you will see the Stedman Icon.

That is! If I were you, before you download the file, create a restore point on your PC, so that after the installation you can restore your PC back to where it was. I don't like Skyscape install software on my PC.

Lastly, I want to mention that Pocketlingo sells "American Heritage Stedman's Medical Dictionary 2nd Edition." It seems that it is different from the one on Skyscape. Skyscape version is more than 20M, the one on pocketlingo is just 2.7M. The one on Skyscape is $49, the one on Pocketlingo is $34.95 (but you may get it for $24.46 if you enter this discount code BA1E94ED I received this code because I bought several Pocketlingo's dictionaries and am on its mailing list). Pocketlingo has trial version as well.

Good luck.

Not trying to stick my nose in here but do you have many loaded things on there already? If not you might want to just do a hard reset and start from scratch, PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT before we can try to figure out where you exactly or on things. But it seems like you have some "clutter" from some install this software you mention or perhaps some other?

BTW did you buy it new or used (hence would it have various prg's already installed)?

thanks!

you guys are the best. with your hand-holding, I was able to walk my way through the procedure and get it right. One of my mistakes was to hit "run" at a point where I should have hit "save." Anyway, I tried my luck at another site and was successful in a trial download, so I had enough self-confidence to go ahead and order the dictionary from Skyscape. It is truly amazing: when you pay for something, things go very smoothly.....thanks.:approve:

epocrates v. pocket pdr - there is no contest. epocrates wins for information and usability. even though, both are free.

the discount code will expire end of this month. It was sent to me because I am on Pocklingo mailing list. I hope the code can work for you.
