CompactFlash types

I just ordered my Axim and I've started looking for a cheap CompactFlash card (memory). The only problem is that all of the ones I have seen at Dustin (a major retailer here in Sweden) seem to be type 1 CF. The site doesn't contain any information regarding what type it is so I came to the conclusion by visiting the manufacurers site. From what information I've been able to find type I CF cards are not compatible with type II CF slots without an adapter. The strange thing is that even at the manufacurers site I had to search for some obscure document with advanced product specs to find out what type it was. All this is making me very confused. How the hell am I supposed to know what type I'm buying if noone seems interested in informing me (it seems like only type II will do to me). If anyone would be kind enough to clear this mess up for me I'd be very grateful.

Well if you are getting it for your axim it doesnt matter because the axim takes both type 1 and type 2 compact flash.

unless i'm wildly misinformed, type I and II cards both work in Type II slots. Type I slots only take Type I cards, and Type II cards only with an adapter.

Any CF card you buy will work in the Axim.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease. I searched for information in a rather frantic manner so my initial conclutions may be wrong. Is there any noticable difference in performance between the types? What type do you use yourselves (in case you use a CF memory card).

The differences are physical size..
As an example most CF memory cards are type 1, whereas the Microdrive(which has a tiny hard drive) is a Type II card.

Often the first generation of a product will be the larger Type II until they get it perfected and minuaturized down to the Type I size..i.e. The original Dlink 802.11b CF adapter(650W) was Type II and I believe the current one(660W) is Type I.
