I had a question: instead of dealing with the issues of syncing to my Windows NT OS system, which i have at work, and i know all about the new serial cable etc. But i was thinking maybe if i use a SD memory card in my axim and a card reader maybe i can just transfer my word files back and forth from my axim to my desktop that way. But i was wondering if anyone knows if this is possible? I mean will i need a program that will read the word document back and forth from the pocket pc system to the desktop? or will it transfer no problem?

thank you!!!!

As far as I know, it should work fine. That is how my father transfers pictures from his digital camera to the desktop without having to actually hook his camera up.

Hmmm. Haven't tried it myself. Don't even own a memory card. But there is a difference between Windows and PPC formats for DOC files. That's why advanced formatting features are lost if you xfer a Doc between Windows -- PPC -- Windows.

ActiveSynch has the ability to translate formats when a file is moved back and forth. So, if the PPC requires the file translation services of ActiveSynch, it might not work.

If you have an SD card, or are going to buy one anyway, you can't hurt anything. But if you are buying an SD card specifically for this purpose, you might want to wait until somebody can try this for you.

From what I understand, the Pocket Word that comes with Pocket PC 2002 does let you at least open Desktop Word files without Activesync converting them, though you may not be able to save them in that format. The older versions of Pocket Word didn't let you do that. Desktop Word files will be bigger, but on a memory card that doesn't really matter.

BTW, where did you find a memory card reader that takes SD and doesn't use USB?

good point about that reader and USB. well i havent found one that doesnt use USB, but im hoping a reader and my desktop windows NT with the USB port will work ok. I talked to sandisk, and they said it should work no problem on NT. Im hoping my office upgrades to windows 2000 and i can just synch directly using active sync and the axim, but if the reader works and my word docs will transfer back and forth, it maybe faster, i dont know yet. the only reason ill use my axim at work is to sync documents so whichever works better. we have dells at work -just hope we upgrade to windows 2000
thanks for the help!
