I am currently a college student and I am working on a technology paper for Personal Digital Assistants. One the arguments in my paper is that PDAs have changed the way people manage or view their time. Also, I am aruguing that PDAs have changed the way people spend their time. For instance, now I am able to check my e-mail on the go, which allows me to have more time in my day since I don't always have to sit down at a compter.
So, I was wondering how having a PDA changes the way you schedule or view your time. Also, how has having a PDA changed how you spend your time during the day. Lastly, if there are any students, how do you use your PDA at school?
ANY input is appreciated! Thanks so much!

Well, I'm a techno-geek, so my PDA allows me to spend more time with my PDA.
I can check email from "wherever" and surf the web, too. It's dandy for taking notes at meetings, and I don't have to go searching for my notebook. I don't have to run downstairs at 1:00 a.m. to check what woot.com's deal of the day is, I can do that from the bedside. It shaves small bits of time off of many daily tasks, so the time I waste playing is made up for.

I don't use wireless all that much - but the Ax has replaced a BUNCH of things. Calculator, schedule book, contact/phone list, journal, bible - all separate items I'd need to carry in my bag otherwise.
PocketBrain - way to work in that trouncing on the weekend - like it.
On the original question, I think one general (maybe too obvious) thing you can say is that in so many walks of life (student, worker etc) knowledge is power (not in the stupid I wanna get ahead sort of way, just in terms of doing something well / efficiently) and mobile devices put knowledge at your fingertips all the time if you use them intelligently.
I don't know how many times I've been at a client site and in need of a small piece of information that was noted years back - a colleague will go scrambling to get online, search for a correct server to look at etc - I'll usually pull up a site visit note in no time flat and find what we need. Just one small example ...

When a professor gives an assignment, I immediately open my Axim to put the assignment in a student planner (Dog Ate It).
As an aside, any & all electronics are forbidden durring class-time, but instructors don't seem to mind use of a PDA for this purpose.
Using a pocket pc has improved my effectiveness in life. Less jobs fall 'thru the cracks' and my to-do list actually gets tasks done. I would add, however, that the cost was (is) the time required for setting up a system customized for me, and my requirements.
I beleive PDAs are not yet ready for everyone; there are still bugs to work out for the next generation of products. Any of these following examples are easy to accomplish on laptops, yet nearly impossible with a (new) PDA:
Viewing a video, Interacting with flash content, Wirelessly connecting to an access point with the SSID broadcast disabled, Printing a document, Creating a slideshow presentation.
An off the shelf PDA can only provide limited capability to the average user; but the knowledgable, determined, or supported adopter can dramatically improve efficency.

please dont post on things you know nothing about. you can do all of those things.
Don´t know about printing docs (don´t have a printer anyway!), who wants to interact with FLASH?!, SSID (isn´t that Star Wars?)??, and slideshow presentations also not my thing.
But video! Ahhhh! Without TCPMP on my PDA it would just be a dust collector. I love my Ax as I can shrink my fave films using FairUse and cart them around with me on my insanely large CF card. Shut the office door and put my feet up in the desk and watch Batman. Thats the life :)

-CB :)
And, to add to CodeBubba's list, weather and several news papers are updated with each daily sync. I often catch up on current events during lunch.
I also carry CAD drawings to various job sites while working.
Getting to the job site is easier when using my PDA's GPS sitting in the auto's
Seidio powered vent mount! :approve:

Well i'm a student and the Axim carries all my lecture slides and unit outlines so I never have to carry piles of paper around. I also keep all the dates of assignment/test/exam/group meetings. All that takes a lot of weight off my shoulders. Emailing is a lot easier too with wifi all around the campus [=
