X51V seem slow

My Palm TX was stolen a few months ago, so I decided to buy an X51V. I have been disappointed with the speed of the X51V - something I'm really surprised to be saying based on all the great feedback I have heard from other Axim owners and PPC owners in general. Not to mention that the Axim has a faster processor than the TX.

I set the processor speed at 624. I noticed that speed improves after a soft reset, but then degrades despite closing programs that stay running in the background.

I am using using Pocket Breeze. I had Pocket Weather set up as a plug-in on the Today view, but I'll have to take that off because things have really slowed down since installing PW.

Does anyone have any advice for me to get my Axim moving so I don't have to wait so long for apps to open? Or maybe direct me to a link with some information? Because this just doesn't seem right...

What is a good app to use to REALLY close programs when I close them?

TIA!
Shelley

Most people like Magic Button for actually closing programs. http://www.trancreative.com/mb.aspx

To make your Axim run faster you may want to check that you are running the A12 ROM version, it is an improvement over older versions.

I've heard of a lot of people who've had problems with PocketWeather, maybe you can put it in a tab in PocketBreeze if you want to use it semi-often, I believe the today plugins in tabs only load when needed and unload after, though I could be wrong....

In most cases setting the clock speed to 624 permanently will make the unit seem snappier, but it will probably quarter the battery life, auto scales up pretty quickly when it is needed so there is only a brief moment when is is sluggish, usually. It is much better for battery life to leave it on auto.

Yup, I've installed A12 and it is an improvement over whatever ROM version I was running before that (I think it was 6?? not sure). But my AXIM still is slow on the response.

I'll try the tabbed Pocket weather idea, but I am having response issues with MyBible and ListPro. I tried AgendaFusion and Pocket Informant. AF ran too slow so I uninstalled it and PI not only ran very slow but my screen would sometimes have lines across it.

I wonder if something couldn't be wrong with my Axim as a friend suggested? I cannot tell you how I dread dealing with tech support but I'll have to contact Dell. Hopefully their tech support reps can speak English, because communication with Palm tech support was excruciating due to language barriers.

Will try Magic Button.
