ok I'm doing something wrong somewhere..

on startup screen is so dim you can hardly navigate to the slider and bump the brightness up.

-touching screen doesn't restore brightness
-dim device if idle (X) not selected
- batt power and external power display brightness sliders were left up to max

additionally, sometimes power off button only causes display to dim, power-off becomes difficult.

what am I doing wrong?

I dont know about all the rest of the problems, but I know that if you hold down the power button, it turns the backlight on and off. Just pushing it for a split second is enough to turn it off. Good luck!! ;)

When you turn off your Axim, press the power button quickly... do not hold the button down. When you hold the button down, the screen is dimmed and it is not turned off.

:o User guide. That's no fun. Better to explore strange, new worlds, seek out new life and new civiliz......... Oh, well. I guess you could use it as a last resort. It's a lot more fun finding out from you guys, though. Keeps me off the streets.

I had the same self-dimming screen settings problem with my 1st Axim....the brightness would always slide itself to minimum between uses. A hard reset seemed to clear it up...I had the unit replaced for a different problem, but Dell tech support did mention this was not an isolated problem. Try a hard reset
