Axim wont connect to internet, Dell support not seeming helpful

Hello,

i am not sure what to do, i dont mean any offense, and i understand Dell's situation and their set up and i think it isnt bad, but it isnt working for my situation.

my dell wont connect to the internet, it will say connecting and then go back to saying available, the dell itself says the network is unsecured, dell has replaced my axim, but my new one doesnt work either, and they suggest different things, first i was suggested an upgrade in ROM, however my current ROM is A12.0001, the "upgrade" ROM i was given is A12, when i went to ask if they wanted me to downgrade to it, i was told to retrograde to A06, this doesnt make sense to me...

the fact that both my new axims i was sent have this issue, i wouldnt think this is a rare problem, yet Dell doesnt seem to know how to fix this, a couple laptops have connected to the wireless internet here more than once, so i dont know whats going on, i asked dell if i had the wrong frequency or something as i read about axims not being able to connect when something is on a wireless g not a b thing, but my router should be both and there is nothing else wireless hooked up to it as fara s i know at this point...

i dont feel i can trust dell support, they tell me different things, instructions ive been given seem to have an error in them as i think they give me the wrong program to try to use as i dont see anywehre in the program the ability to do what they are wanting me to do

i dont know, i certainly dont mean anything bad about dell, the people are certainly doing there job and doing it well, its just that the system they have set up isnt fixing my problem and does seem flawed in that i dont feel im talking to someone experienced with axims, i think they are just looking at a computer screen that tells them what steps to do, some of the info doesnt make sense to me...

what is the difference between ROM A06 and A12 and A12.0001, is this really something i should do? it doesnt seem right ot me to go back to what i think is an old ROM like that, and i dont trust that the people i talk to really know about it, just that its what a program on their computer says to do..

should i try A12 before A06 as right now i have A12.0001..

i dont trust dell and i cant say i feel i can recommend them to anyone, the people are very nice and doing their job, it has nothing to do with that, just that the system isnt working in this situation.

id like to talk to someone from dell tech support that actually works on hardware or software, has actually had a dell axim x51v in their hand and used it and worked on it,

or a higher level management person who i can talk to about why their support isnt working for me and see if they can arrange that or what suggestsions they have, these dont seem to be options available.

i want to use a pocket pc, it sounds like the dell Axims are the best, but dell overall isnt impressing me at this point.

no offense meant, the people are doing a wonderful job, just that the system isnt working, and im sure it works for most cases and is a nice system adn not bad, just getting frustrated, hope thats not bad...

thanks - jason

A couple of things to check. First, see if your firewall is allowing you passage. Then, check to see if your router has any access restrictions such as limited IP range or MAC filtering. Also, check WLan site settings and configurations on the Ax. I would also try a different router at a different location if possible.

Good luck.

What do you mean you don't 'trust' them??? After all, they are a huge American Corporation and are just as trustworthy as Enron, Haliburton, Exxon...

Really, most problems with connecting the Axim can be linked to settings on the router. I would suggest you look at the WiFi Guide, in particular, the Troubleshooting and Windows Mobile 5.0 sections .

P.S., I've removed your other thread. We do not allow cross posting.
