Question Excel file opening time

I just bought an axim so i don't know the standard timing on opening apps and such. I have a few excel files that are about 1MB or so and it takes over 1 minute for the file to open. This seems like a long time. Is this the standard or is something not right? If this is the case, how long does it take to open a 5MB .mp3 file or a 200MB .avi file. I was wanting to use this as an MP3 player and portable movie player but it seems at this rate it will take hours for it to load. Also, is there a PPC version of winamp?

Thanks,
VirusGT

Open sesame

I understand your problem with Excel, the program wants the entire spreadsheet into memory. As is the case with word and access.
However on your mp3 and avi files, the players don't require the entire file to begin playing.
When using my ax as an MP3 player, I've had no problems at all. I haven't tried the movies yet, not enough memory,,, yet.
Hope this helps.

I have a 600kb spreadsheet that I use in Pocket Excel and it does take a while. Pocket Excel doesn't seem to work well with big files so at least you are not alone. :)

I personally use the ClearVue Suite for Office documents. Haven't tried a LARGE Excel file, but I'll try this weekend and post back.

I have a .81 KB excel file that take a very long time to open. It takes over a minute as well. Is there another free program like excel that is faster? and another free program like word? Or is there anyway to speed this up?

Thanks,

-Rotz

One reason some people have been having trouble with programs and files opening slowly is because they have a memory card (CF or sd) install which does not have a My Documents folder. PPC2002 automatically places an 'ignore_my_docs' file on these cards which means applications need to search through the entire card before starting.

If this is the case, simply go into file explorer, add a My Documents folder then delete the ignore_my_docs file.

That's true. I noticed a difference if My Documents was there vs not. Now I keep some of my excel files in the folder on my SD card.
