Hmm Keeping Games on SD

I'm confused ... I want to keep most of my downloaded games on a SD card [and my photos on another, and music on others, etc.] to preserve the Axim onboard Memory as much as possible. My problem is although I can successfully install the software on the SD card as well as the Axim, when I remove the software from the Axim it then won't run from the SD card. I end up having to load up the Axim again - and that does seem to defeat the object. What am I doing wrong? :hide:

Also can someone advise what I can use Built-in storage for? My Program Memory is showing 44%, Storage Memory 65%, and Built-in Storage 0%. Are those figures okay? They seem a bit high to me .... :rolling:

Sorry to ask more [probably] silly questions. Thanks for your help.

Hey there, well, when you install your programs are you telling activesyc to install it to the SD card or are you installing it the default way and moving it manually? If you move it manually the shortcut to the game probably cant find it anymore, I think soem games and apps are dependant on axim memory but very few, most can be run from any SD CF Cards, I have almost all my apps and games on card, and I leave my built in memory almost totally free for the apps and games to use.

Can you tell us how your installing your software then how you try to use it and it wont work...

I have 99% of my games and ebooks and apps on my SD card. I would say that I only have 2 at the moment that have a problem with this (AOE and DreamQuest Hearts, Euchre and Spades). The developers are aware of the problems and are working on solutions.

As far as built in memory goes, I try to keep that free. Makes things much easier to reinstall if I have to do a hard reset ;).

Thanks for the help. I've been selecting 'No' when it asks whether to install to Default and then selecting the SD. That's why I'm confused because afterwards it still appears on the Axim memory as well - duh! I check that the software runs okay from the SD card and after establishing that it does, uninstall the program from the Axim's own memory. I've even tried removing the SD so that the unistall can't poach from it! :crooked:

If you are removing the programs using the Remove Programs utility, that could be your problem. That utility shows all Programs installed, even the ones on the SD card. It will give you a list called Programs in Storage Memory, but if you installed it on your SD card, then only the shortcut for the program is actually in the storage memory. When you uninstall, it removes the item form the SD card, as well as the shortcut.

So, if you installed the program to your SD card, only the shortcut icon is in the storage memory, and you don't need to uninstall it.

Aaaaaaaaaaah now that makes some kind of sense - now I know NOT to uninstall but simply delete any invalid icons, et. using Resco File Explorer. Thank You! :)

Hey All, I was of the mistaken perception that you could NOT install applications to the SD card. I thought one could only install data for applications. Thus, I use an application from Laridian where I installed the program into main memory and installed the data onto the SD. The reason for this is that when I chose to install to SD, it always indicated that no space was available. I ignored that today, and it worked. I've been able to move a number of applications to the SD card. Now that I know this can be done, I'll have to buy a larger SD card than the 128 MB I have.
