The pairing problem with the x51v is intermittent. For the most part it works out well. I have had the same problem with pairing and my GPS receiver. I use both every day and frequently throughout the day so, perhaps it is just a heavy use thing. For the most part it pairs up fine. Do not be surprised if you have to re-do the pairing occasionally. I am also using the Widcom BT Stack which I think is superior to the built in stack but still not perfect.
Another problem I had with the IR keyboards was that they had to be in line of sight with the PDA. Often I will put my keyboard in my lap and the PDA on the conference table. This is more convenient for me, especially if I have to have several documents spread around the table. I can just put the PDA to the side and type away in my lap. It is also a little more discrete. In my world this PDA and keyboard thing is an oddity and I do not want to stand out. Otherwise I found the IR keyboards to work great and were comparable in responsiveness. I only type around 60 wpm so that may not be a very big test. If you do not care about line of site and being able to type with the keyboard in your lap I think IR is a more affordable choice.
