Try plugging the headphone and wiggling it gently as you pull it back out. There is a little switch inside the headphone connector that detects whether or not there is a plug in and it can get stuck sometimes.
Some have suggested that a toothpick (or anything non-metal) being wiggled around in the headphone connector can fix the problem.
