Whenever you can, as often as you can, charge continuously if possible. The more you allow it to discharge, the less time your main battery will last.

I agree - don't leave it any longer than necessary, and watch out coz some people have had problems with the back up battery failing....regular backups a good idea!

When I am at the computer, my Ax is charging. When I am not using it, it is in the cradle charging. At night it is plugged in next to my bed :). Translation: I charge whenever possible. Like bernie said, who knows how reliable the backup battery is. Is it worth the chance?

You don't have to worry about leaving it charging too long. The Axim is intelligent and know when it should be charging and when it is charged.

Are the Axim batteries with a memory (that learns how often you charge)? Like portable radios, or the old mobile phone batteries that would learn if you charged it once it reached 50% every time, it would learn that pattern, so would only run until 50% is left, and expect a recharge. (I hope that makes sense). Some batteries require you to run it down before recharging, otherwise it's running time becomes shorter and shorter. (Sorry don't know the technical terminology)

Lithium ion batteries do not have the memory problem and, in fact, they last longest the less you discharge. Search for li-ion and you'll find a few threads about it here and here is a link about Li-ion batteries.

Thanks for the link Ike. I laptop with a poor battery and assumed it was because I didn't use the battery enough.

I was intending to run my Ax though discharge cycles frequently so you probably saved my a few bucks.
