Can anyone tell me why I should keep my Dell Axim (or motivate me to keep it?)? I originally bought it to keep organized, surf the web without carrying a laptop, and all the other features were pretty cool. I also thought that it would be safer to carry one of these rather than a laptop. It came with map software installed but after fiddling around with it, it no longer has its appeal. I used it for maybe 2 weeks and now it just sits in its craddle all day and night.
Then I thought, 'why don't I just use my laptop for all those?'. Using a PDA probably has just as much chance of getting stolen as does a laptop. Why else have a laptop at all if one is to just carry a PDA around? Can't I install some sort of map software on a laptop (already have) and have it do the same stuff like the PDA? After a while I just began to write down what I had to do for a week rather than plugging it into the Axim.
Its cool and all, but after reading the above, can anyone convince me to keep it around? I also realize this is long and drawn out...
Why should I keep it if I don't use it? I've been thinking about selling it or trading it for something else on craigslist.

Well:
There's the boot time (my laptop is quick to boot, but nowhere near as quick as my X50)
Convenience of the Axim's form factor (small & perfectly formed)
The weight advantage (much easier to carry an Axim all day than a laptop or even, a sub-notebook)
The security considerations (in that there are no widespread virus for the Axim)
The Axim is not a replacement for a laptop (at least not in my life), but it's a fantastic alternative in the right situations. If I have a few moments to spare, I can be reading an e-book, practicing my French or revising for exams, all in the time it takes me to get my laptop out of its bag and boot it up.
Don't be too quick to dismiss the Axim once the wow factor has gone. Look at some of the View MyPDA submissions for some great ideas about what you can do with your device.

Welcome to Aximsite
Not a replacement more of an enhancement, I use axim every day, for a multitude of things, check email on the train in the morning, notes and lists during the day, online ordering with a couple of companies, ebooks, Bible study, inventory and stock management. Keep it in my pocket and when I get home (early cause I know I don't have to sit at a desktop at work) I sync what I need to edit to laptop and then resync to axim, and when I get to work in the morning, stand in front of the printer for a while and beam to print and have everything I need to delegate for the day, no need for lengthy explanations. Axim was never meant to be Just an organiser.
I agree with all of the above. I use my Axim every day for more than an organizer. Each person has different needs..... that's why there are so many different devices and markets for them!
If you need the money more than the device...sell it!
I have to agree the axim is what you make of it. I use it more for the games and movies when I am stuck some where. However I use it to check call tickets, check the network status and surf the web, among other things for work. My company will soon be switching over to the moto Q and while it has most of the functions of the axim I will continue to use the axim because I love the screen to much to not use it.

That's the reason I haven't upgraded to a converged smartphone yet: I love the 3.7" VGA screen. If I could get a phone with that, I'd change in a heartbeat.
Most PDA users have specific requirements for which the PDA is just right. There is also the 2% who are in it for the aesthatics. Which group do you belong?

Well, sounds like you want something else if you're trying to convince yourself that you need it when you would rather use a laptop. As for myself it's the opposite: I kept trying to convince myself I needed to carry around a laptop but kept finding that my "tricorder" had more than enough functionality when I wasn't plugged in at my desk - so the laptop is now in the hands of my oldest daughter, I have a Dell Dimension at my desk at the house and my X50 goes with me all the time.
for traveling purposes, just to keep yourself busy either on the airplane or on the car, I would prefer pda over laptop.
most laptop is still too big to carry around. pda can be in my pocket.
It all depends on your situation.
