Help Deciding on PDA
:crooked:
Hi,
I have recently become interested in buying a PDA, with the DELL AXIM 400mhz standing out as good value for money with good reviews to boot.
But thier are a few questions that i need to know the answer to before i go any further. They are:
1. I have a ADSL broadband connection at home, would i be able for example to connect to the internet on my DELL AXIM through this connection or is this not possible? If no, what is the best way to conect to the internet without getting another isp etc?
2.I am interested in designing Flash web sites/apps for PPC2003 PDA'S is it possible to test these on a DELL AXIM?
3.I have noticed that there are some snes/nes/gba emulators for pocket pc's, it would be great if i could play snes on the DELL AXIM with decent fps/sound etc is this possible?
4.What is the video and sound quality like when watching movies and mp3's?
5.Is thier any extra equipment needed to transfer files between the PDA and a desktop pc?
6.Finally, What is the battery life like?
Cheers

I can answer 4, 5, and 6. I have some idea about 1 and 2.
1. I think that will work.
2. The Axim can run flash apps, but I don't know how it would be with developing them. I also don't know about 2003 compatability.
4. The video quality on the Axim is great, but I have noticed lines on the screen sometimes when using landscape mode. As for sound I don't like the built in speaker but with any external speakers or headphones it's great.
5. The Axim comes with a beautiful cradle which is all the hardware you need to transfer files.
6. The battery life is great. I've listened to mp3s for over an hour and the battery was still over 60% and I keep it on 400 mhz all the time. If the battery isn't long enough for you, you can turn it down to 200 mhz or have it automatically select it when you're using different programs.

4) i've never seen any lines on mine...
5) you should get a card reader for like $15
6) with the screen dimmed the axim can play music on 50% volume for over SIX hours.

1. Yes you can connect to your broadband. How... that depends. Do you have a HUB/Gateway/firewall/DHCP/WLAN or just the cabel-modem?
You need at least LAN or WLAN-card (depending on if you want wireless or have a very long TP-cabel?

We dont know yet.
On ppc2002, snes playback without sound is only around 10 fps as far as i know. However the new OS just came out and its optimizations could change this.
The ipaq 2215 is capable of playing snes games at full speed with full sound, but we dont know how much of this is due to hardware differences and how much is due to the xscale processor optimized windows mobile 2003. If its largely due to the new OS, then its possible you can get a deecnt fps/sound. Im hoping so. No axim upgrades have shipped yet, so most people cant test it yet, only the new axims that were ordered recently have them and i havnt seen any stats on it yet, unless i missed something.

USB? Hmmm... haven't seen those up here.
Can you connect to it with a standard TP-cabel?
